We do that here in the UK but not in forests, but up on the moors of Scotland, Yorkshire and Derbyshire on the Heather clad moors too burn off old growth which encourages new growth in which the young Heather shoots are eaten by the chicks and adult red grouse which are hunted for, between august 12-december 10 its done on a rotation so some old growth is left for the adults too nest in
