I wish this version had the best verse of the song

“We will welcome to our numbers the loyal, true, and brave.
Shouting the battle cry of freedom!
And although he may be poor, he shall never be a slave.
Shouting the battle cry of freedom!”

My grandfather was a proud Southerner and my grandmother a proud Northerner. Every year at Christmas, my grandfather would make a toast and say, "All beauty and honor died in 1865." One year, my grandmother finally got fed-up with his dramatics and said, "Jimmy, WE won. Let it go, already."

President Lincoln: have we captured Atlanta yet?
General Sherman: what Atlanta?

Sam Houston resigned as Governor of Texas rather than sign a loyalty oath to the Confederacy.

My favorite verse was left out of this version:
“We will welcome to our numbers the loyal, true and brave, Shouting the battle cry of freedom! And although he may be poor, not a man shall be a slave, Shouting the battle cry of freedom”

The Confederate songs are about the fun nature of the South.

The Union songs are threats to stop the insurrection or you'll die

While I love the Star Spangled Banner as our national anthem, Battle Cry of Freedom would make for an excellent USA anthem too.

Its ironic that when so many supposed "American patriots" are presented with one of the most obvious times America is genuinely worth cheering for in history, they pick the other side.

Let's not forget the thousands of southerns who stayed loyal to the Union. From areas in Northern Alabama, north Georgia, eastern Tennessee, and western North Carolina, just to name a few areas. Mostly mountain people who wabted nothing to do with slavery and the new Confederacy.
