▪️ Wildcards & IF Function: Explore why traditional wildcards don't work in IF functions and discover an alternative method.
▪️ Using SEARCH and ISNUMBER Functions: Learn to use the SEARCH and ISNUMBER functions as a wildcard substitute in IF formulas.
▪️ Case Sensitivity in Searches: Understand the difference between SEARCH (not case-sensitive) and FIND (case-sensitive) functions.
▪️ Practical Examples: See step-by-step demonstrations on how to identify specific text patterns within data.
▪️ OR Function for Multiple Conditions: Combine the OR function with SEARCH and ISNUMBER for more complex logical tests.

Learn how to combine Excel's IF function with wildcards for a partial text match. For example, you'd like to check IF a cell contains a specific word. If yes, then you'd like a specific result, otherwise you'd like another result.

We also take a look at checking the data against multiple partial match strings.
If you're familiar with the IF function, you know the logical test argument looks for an exact match. In case you'd like to look for a partial match in the IF formula (Excel IF function with text containing another word), you can't use an asterisk sign just like you would in the SUMIFS or COUNTIFS formulas. Instead you need to either use the SEARCH or the FIND functions. These will act as your wildcards.
You can apply the same approach to the SUMPRODUCT function.

I had to check 7, 000 entries of comments (long'ish text) from customers, we were interested in finding a particular word in the comments. Your tutorial here just saved me days of boring 'eye-balling' work, Wonderful! Thank you. BTW, I prefer your style of teaching than many others - it's always clear, no rambling and intuitive. Many thanks again.

I had to display list of values based on partial match of text in the previous column cells. This helped me resolve an issue which I was struggling for days. You are awesome. Thanks ! For anyone who is new in Excel, this channel is good info here.

I appreciate that you take us through the steps of things that won't work and explain why. This makes it easy to follow and is useful for cases where those functions that don't work in this case might be useful for something else we encounter in the future. Thank you for your work on this!
