Mpv is without a doubt my favourite media player, I've used others in the past and nothing even comes close to mpv, however, it is missing a lot of features that you might miss from other media players but that's where adding scripts comes in. Mpv has a very big lua scripting community that can completely change the way you use this application.

mpv-webm is probably my favorite mpv script, use it all the time to generate small clips of larger videos to post elsewhere. But man, I need that thumbnail script immediately.

I'm using the celluloid front end of mpv. I have been trying to implement the video rotate by 90 deg script, and somehow it just refuses to work both on mpv and on celluloid. I've downloaded and pasted both the scripts folder with the lua code as well a input.conf file in my /.config/mpv folder. Yet either of the player refuse to rotate the videos. Can someone guide me?

Umm... lua-scripts is deprecated, it says and doesn't work(the thumbnail script) any ideas?

I spent the longest time trying to get that thumbnail script to work. Then I realized that it might be because I was using mpv to view youtube videos instead of something that is local or fully buffered. So I downloaded the video and boom. Instant thumbnails.

I've installed mpv thumbnail script but even though i put in the mpv_thumbnail_script autogenerate=yes, thumbnails still won't generate automatically. What am I doing wrong?

I have been wanting to change the way my mpv looks for a while, thank you for making this vid. However, I have been trying to get osc-style working, do you know what the location that the osc-style osc.lua config dir needs to go in? Would it be the scripts or the lua-settings folder? Thanks

Have you tried the Celluloid Media Player? It's a front-end for MPV and there's some way of linking them up so they work which I'm making my brain ache over. Something to do with configs.

I just use MPV because opens hella fast and I can press F for fullscreen and Q acts like a panic button.
Besides I can switch subtitles, take screenshots, set playback speed, play almost any media, and move between frame by frame precisely without even use the mouse.
I still have VLC but not as a main player, I don't even use it to play videos but use its features.

I have been trying to get this thumbnail script working but it seems like the whole project is dead and people try to breath life to it by commenting stuff in github. far as looking into your dot files they seem to be different from what you actually do in the video which is confusing. I haven't got this thing to work at all I try to look for error messages in the log file but it seems like mpv is even reading the script to load it at all. Also there seems to be some commits in the github to change some 525 line to something else which you haven't changed in your dotfiles so.. I am kinda lost here..

To make mpv_thumbnail_script work do the following:

Change line 525 of your local files from:
"--o", output_path
To:
"--o=" .. output_path
