In this week's OCC environmental news video, I take a brief look at the growing struggle over the Green New Deal. Specifically, how climate activists have clashed with senators like Representative Dianne Feinstein and Representative Mitch McConnell over the Green New Deal resolution. Also in the news, NASA released a study that shows that the earth is greener with more trees and vegetation than it was 20 years ago.

What are your thoughts on the Green New Deal? Do you think Congress members who say it isn't realistic are right? Also has anyone planted trees before? Do you think planting millions of trees is effective?

The green new deal is too radical. The us does need to make a change though. Planting trees won’t save us now. We need scientist to develop new technology to save the environment not for scientist to predict and tell us we are screwed. We need a innovation that is affordable and appealing to businesses and government and the people.

I really enjoy your videos and I feel like your channel is one of the only channels worth watching consistently. I learn something new with each video and I always walk away with more information. Keep being awesome!

Subscribed. One of the better channels on knowledgable environment statements that I've seen growing. Keep on doing this!

The green new deal is really incredible as a work of legislation. The act alone could single-handedly meet IPCC targets (if it were actually achieved), as well as just making the US an altogether more humane place to live and work. But it serves the twofold job of *that* and also turning the US from a leader in promoting the expansion of the fossil fuel industry to a leader in conservation and clean energy, virtually in one fell swoop.

I am... not a fan of the US. To be frank, I'm an anticapitalist, an anarchist to be specific. I hear a lot about the uselessness of reformism, that a political order in which working people effectively have no power is pointless to struggle in. Even if this works, the profound global problem of America's power, more broadly western power, and still broader the power of capital itself must still be contended with. This "clean energy revolution", in the best case, really only postpones the crisis, for so long as our economy is driven by the consumption of material goods; and it can only be so driven when it's fundamentally in orbit of wealth before need, when a tiny fragment are enfranchised instead of all people. In its best case, America is still a settler-colony on stolen land.

But even the most convicted revolutionaries have to realize that, should the whole political order change tomorrow, we're still shafted with the economy we find ourselves in today. Now, at the moment, I'm still eager to convince anyone and everyone willing to listen that the economy and political order themselves must end, because no matter what we achieve now, so long as our economy is as it is, it can only incentivize the further exploitation of the planet, beyond that planet's capacity to sustain life. However, we are not already at a moment where everyone is convinced, where ordinary people are ready to call a stop to it, where they have the organized capacity to use the material power they have, or even care to. In lieu of the ability to turn the economy off, I'll take this, and I'll fight fiercely for it, if it seems like it might succeed (and it might!). It's surprisingly close to what I'd do if I held the reins tomorrow, given the need to start with what we've got.

Man I just discovered this channel and it's honestly amazing. Really great presentation and research behind the topics. Do you think you'll do a video on the future of Nuclear Energy? I read a book called A Bright Future, which was about the power of Nuclear and the future of using it for our energy. I feel like that through your channel it would get a lot more attention.

All we need is to increase funding in Lab Grown Meat. Meat produces more of a carbon footprint than all types of transportation combined. Including planes, cars & delivery ships.
Also butter the public up to eating lab grown meat.
