Ukraine says it is holding territory in the Kursk region of Russia which it seized seven weeks ago in a surprise offensive into Russian territory. As part of what President Zelensky names his “victory plan”, Ukraine hopes to gain important leverage by stepping up the military pressure on Moscow. Fun fact: the ukr already lost quite some km² there and are being pushed back (esp in the west and east) and have quite high casualties.

If they can't hold on to this (which is admittedly not realistic bcs rus has air superiority and way more forces) it will turn out to be a big blunder of the ukr army.
