Dimension & measure slicers in Power BI with field parameters

It's often useful to make a Power BI dashboard page that analyses various dimensions (e.g. gender, age, country, product, date) but where the user can pick which measure they want broken down by all of those, eg I want to switch between sales broken down by all those, into #customers for all of those into last months sales growth etc.

Or the other way around, various charts have multiple fixed measures and the user can select from a slicer the dimension. Field parameters can do both of these things, and here I explain them with some gotchas worth knowing.

Thank you David, this is great and I'm using since a while, but I can to a requirement in a report that have a lot of measures, some of these measures can appear only in 1 year let say 2022 as it was at this time a KPI, but now in 2024, it's not a KPI anymore, is it possible to add all measures dynamically when they have value in the selected period?

Not sure if the questions is clear!

Thank you
