It is important to note that at least on modern Android, this isn't a problem. If you have USB-C, your phone is the "host" device by default, and you would have to manually enable data transfer mode for it to be dangerous. Otherwise no data transfer is permitted.

I never thought that transmitting data through charging cables was a thing. After watching this video I realized that data could go through charging cables. Thanks for this shorts video 😊 Now I’ll think twice about using the public charging thingy.

Of course, more often than not, a USB charger like that will also have standard outlets, so if you're going to carry around a dongle with you, carrying a power adapter will be useful in far more situations and not require buying something specialized to public charging.

You can also get charging cords with no data wires. But those tend to annoyingly only be around when you need to transfer data

There are literally some cables which only charge, and don't do data transfer, they only have 2 wires.
