My Filming Gear:

In this VIDEO:
❌ 1 - DON’T order cappuccino after 11am.

Cappuccino in Italy is a morning drink which has to be consumed together with your breakfast.

If you a fancy a cup of coffee after lunch time and can’t have your coffee without milk - go for macchiato. Same principle as cappuccino- espresso with a splash of foamy milk but it’s absolutely fine to have it anytime of the day.

❌ 2 - Don’t expect having early dinner.

Italians are late eaters. That’s why all local, traditional Italian restaurants start serving dinner at least at 7:30pm

Super travel to Italy tip: never choose the restaurant if the menu outside is in English. It’s usually a tourist trap - higher price for pretended to be traditional food

❌ 3 - DO NOT ORDER ANY OF THOSE:
Pasta with meatballs
Pizza with pineapple
Pizza with chicken
Those dishes do not exist in Italy. So please do not insult the Italians by ordering them.

Also when you order pizza in Italy you don’t usually share it with your friends. You order 1 pizza for yourself!

❌ 4 - DO NOT WEAR FLIP FLOPS IN BIG CITIES in ITALY

better don’t wear flip flops when you are in Rome or Milano.

They are for the seaside only! Seaside type of shoes. Period.

❌ 5 - DON’T WEAR Sandals WITH Socks

Sandals with socks is one of the worst things to be wearing in Italy. It’s considered to be no taste and again all fashion rules.

❌ 6 - No open legs and shoulders

When visiting churches in Italy you must be dressed appropriately and it is not possible to enter with clothes as if you were at the beach.

Remember general rules of visiting those gorgeous churches in Italy:
Legs and shoulders must be coves
Backpack, bulky handbags, hats must be removed

❌ 7 - DON’T EXPECT BRANDED, DESIGNER CLOTHING TO BE CHEAP IN ITALY

The prices for those brands are standardised and remain pretty much the same for every country where those brands have their shops.

❌ 8 - DON’T SPEAK LOUD in English thinking that Italians will understand you better.

They won’t. And it looks so funny for the locals when I a native English speaker is talking so loud like literally screaming and also making lots of movements with their hands.

If English is the only language you speak it is absolutely fine, nothing is wrong about it.
But! Speak slowly. And try using most common words.

❌ 9 - DO NOT GO TO ITALY WITHOUT LEARNING BASIC WORDS AND PLEASES

Knowing simple words like buongiorno — good day! Buonasera - good evening, knowing the difference between buongiorno and globally famous Italian ciao and where you should use one or another - will already make your trip much more pleasure.

❌ 10 - DON’T LIMIT YOUR TRIP TO ITALY BY VISITING ROME - FLORENCE- VENICE ONLY

Italy has so many interesting places to explore! All those little towns and small villages. They are similar and totally different at the same time.

#11 Mandolin music is only representative of certain zones of southern Italy, please if you are aiming to play some authentic italian music as background in your videos take this in mind: every region (or sometimes even city) has its representive music, just like food or culture.
Just to put this into perspective, playing mandolin while displaying Rome is like playing Sweet Home Alabama in the background while showing the streets of Manhattan.

I'm from Torino in the north-west of Italy. In Italy you can ask to cut pizzas for kids or for take away pizza.
Good video, but there is an 11th rule: don't use stereotypical music like that in videos about Italy. When I listen to it, I think: "Not again!" 😅

Can I add one thing? do not speak about mafia jokingly, never ever imply jokingly that your interlocutor could belong to it, it would be a terrible offense. While Hollywood glamorizes it, 99% of people in Italy hate it.

As Italian, I really do not understand how can people allow others to touch or eat you own pizza! Not even my wife is allowed to eat my pizza without my permission.

I love your video. Don't forget another little tip: Italy is long and exist greath difference between north and south Italy. I live in Rome but i'm come from Milano and there is different time for dinner, different traditional food (in Milano the best food is "risotto"), different habits. And much more the temperament are different. In north the people are gentle but chill, in south look much more wellcoming but sometimes too much (i tell this because i' from Milano 😀😀😀)

Tbh you can find good italian restaurants with english menus, what you should know is that for italians "italian food" doesnt exists. Every region has its own typical recipes, if a restaurant has in his menu a lot of popular italian dishes that are not typical from that region/city, you're most likely walking into a tourist trap. For example if you're in milan and a restaurant has on its menu carbonara (typical from rome) and lasagne (typical from bologna), you're in a tourist trap.
I also find "the fashion thing" quite overrated, we wear usually comfy in summer, especially by day, just avoid to wear too shabby if you go to restaurants or churches: i cant stand a grown man in shorts and baseball hat to the restaurant.

A friend of mine moved to London years ago and found a German girlfriend there, they live together. Anyway, last year he got back in the summer as usual but you could really see how he started to lose some Italian "manners", so to speak.
I shit you not, the first thing everyone of us told him the first time he saw him was "why the hell are you wearing flip flops?" Even before saying hello. It was funny cause we managed to see him basically only one at a time and every single time he got to hear the same thing, he eventually started wearing shoes again. This summer he stayed 2 whole months and i didn't see him in flip flops once, we saved a soul there!

Cappuccino can also be delicious in afternoon hours, instead of tea, but only during the coldest season.
Oh, i'm an italian old lady living in north western side of the country.

Please, as Italian, I'm asking you to stop with this kind of music in background...please stop with this mandolino.

Sandals with socks is like a first degree murder in Italy, same carbonara with cream or mushrooms... 😂

Your advice nr 9 should be the first one. It changes a lot tourist's life in the way to be much better welcome. And yes Italians make sometimes gestures (especially in the south) when they are talking (or not...) when it has sense (and each gesture has a precise meaning), not like ridiculous tourists from north Europe doing that, thinking it's cool to do that in Italy without any reason, like a nervous tic 🙃 They can't even imagine how local people think your place is in a psychiatric hospital 😅

I'm Italian, I live in Italy and I order cappuccino at any time of the day. Nobody ever said anything about it. Order your cappuccino whenever you want.

I am Italian and I really liked your video. You are so nice. All things you said are true.

the Most accurate is definitely the last one. Everyone goes to Venice and Rome, but it is such a pity to miss places like Lucca or Siena.

The tradition of drinking cappuccino only in the morning is fading away as we are becoming more tolerant towards that.
You can still have a pizza with pineapple or chicken, but it would be such a waste when you have such great combinations to try! Why opting for an american one?
P.s.
A girl like Anya can do anything she wants : drinking cappuccino at 3PM, wearing flipflops, order a cappuccino with a pineapple and dip a slice of pizza in it.
Because rule#11 Italians cannot resist the charme of stunning women :P

Actually, pasta with meatballs exists in some regions of the South, a fact not very renowned even by fellow Italians. But it's a special local dish, not something you can order everywhere or in a major tourist city.
