KDE Plasma is the BEST Desktop Environment . . . for Me. It might not be the best for everyone but if you haven't tried it before or in a while I do think you should absolutely give it a try because I think it is freaking awesome! :D If you do give a try, please let me know what your experience is like. I am always curious to hear how people experience KDE Plasma.

One of the reasons I settled on KDE Plasma for my primary desktop rig is because it actually looks, acts, and feels like an ACTUAL DESKTOP COMPUTER. It doesn't try to be a phone or a tablet like other Linux DE's or Windows or Apple.

KDE 4 WAS resource heavy, fragile, frequent crashes and baloo seemed to never finish indexing. It was so bad, I went to Gnome for a few years. I finally tried KDE Neon and was impressed at how much better things are. I have been using Kubuntu since 18.04 and love it.

My cousin convinced me to give Manjaro a whirl which I did. I am running xfce but I think I will try the KDE Plasma to give 'er a little more punch. Excellent video!!

I would love to see that hour long video on why you love KDE Plasma! Maybe a 5 more reasons follow up? Great video, I couldn't agree more

Awesome video! Thanks. KDE person here. Never seen more stable and consistent DE. I am a programmer and I care about install-once and focus on productive work. And all features you mentioned, help a lot in being super productive. Running it on Debian/Manjaro. I remember when I started looking for the best DE, KDE was the only one that allowed me to save positions and sizes of my windows after they are closed.

100% agree. KDE is the best. I use it with Arch and I love how it looks and behaves.

I share your enthusiasm for Plasma. I first tried it on KDE Neon, then on Kubuntu and now I'm using it on my favorite distro Manjaro. Like you said, I love how you can customise everything on it and set it up for your specific workflow. I have tied other desktops and I always feel a little lost in them, I miss being able to set them up like Plasma. So I always go back to it. Keep up the great videos!

I am a IT student and I have switched a lot between KDE and GNOME. Both on Arch. And I just love Arch KDE. It is stable as hell and we always get the updates fast. I love how smooth it is. And I use it with the standard Breeze theme.
It is already cool I can disable that the close button get rid of the white round around it. Love it!

One super useful thing about KDE connect - it can turn your phone into a remote control for slide presentations. That was so great when I had to do a presentation with other competitors, only I had this ability and I felt like a boss! :)

Great to meet you Michael. I am making a big leap today. I just started using linux mint a couple of months ago and now I am stepping up to Debian with the KDE Plasma desktop. There we many other desktop installs but I thought I would just begin with the one. What a difference between mint xfce and Debian KDE. The only thing bad for me will be the learning curve. But I think that in a month I will be a veteran. I liked your presentation and I subscribed. Hope to find many informative video on KDE. Thank you for taking the time to do the video.

Also a fan of Plasma, everything seems to work out of the box and it works very well. I mostly live in a WM, but either Plasma or XFCE is running in the background. Good video, I'll have to subscribe and watch more. Twenty-years, GNU Linux, I tried Red Hat and Suse at least 30-years ago when it was sold at CompUSA via CD-Rom, went the DOS 6.0 route instead.

Hey Michael! Great vid. I would love for you to do a KDE Connect video. That would be rad.

I've been using KDE "for real" for a couple months now and I don't think I can go back to another desktop environment, it simply has everything you need right out of the box and more. KDE Connect is by far my favorite feature, such a fantastic tool. I believe they still have a long way to go in terms of UI/UX design, this has always pushed me away from the project, but I know they are already working on it so this makes me even more excited for future KDE releases.

Also, this is my first time on this channel and I just wanted to say that I really liked the video, thank you!

I've switched to plasma for more than 2 years now, and I can't imagine my self using another DE, its feature-rich, and nothing could replace it for now.
I tried almost all DEs, Gnome, Unity, XFCE, Deepin, and i3, and awesome WMs, but I went back to plasma as my daily driver.
thanks

This is exactly my experience, i always resisted KDE because the few times i tried it i was put off by the little inconsistencies and few bugs that i found but after i really gave it a chance it is the best among all DEs i tried and i believe i have pretty much tried 90% of them
Why? simply it's the most customizable yet comprehensive + out of the box complete DE

I only recently returned to KDE, having been using i3 for quite some time, and I'm definitely liking what I'm seeing. When it comes to customisation, I love it really does allow a great deal of changes to the layout. You can make it look like damn near any other DE, and many of the tools are far more powerful than you might expect. In i3, I didn't really bother with a file manager, because it was easier to just use the terminal commands to cd where I wanted to go. Dolphin has a built in terminal emulator should you choose to use it, so you can switch between the gui and the terminal seamlessly.

Agreed! I am using KDE on Kubuntu 20.04 and it works incredibly well. My laptop has an old, tired AMD A6 processor that huffs and puffs in Windows with the fan screaming almost all the time. In Kubuntu, it's MUCH quieter and the system just purrs along with much better responsiveness, even with Telegram, Dropbox and Zoom running in the background.

Great video! Thanks for this!
I'm going to try KDE in MX-21 when they have the final release, and also in true Debian 11. I'll post after I try it out for a while in each Distro.
Thanks again for this Michael!

Yes, I totally agree with you. Simple to customize and everything you need is right there. It also has apps for making it an educational version for additional classes in schools.
