I came here to understand what the electoral college was and after watching this video, I am even more confused.

It all goes back to the Connecticut compromise. Without the electoral college, only the large states with large populations would be deciding the election of a president.

In other words they think the people are too stupid to know what’s good for us

Read the constitution. You vote for local and state reps. Your state rep picks ppl who pick the president. They can technically pick whomever they want. Voting for president by individual citizen vote is not in the constitution it’s theatre to keep ppl distracted from who they let run their state and those ppl can be easily bought out to pick ppl leaning one way or another

The electoral college doesn’t represent with any kind of clarity how voters truly feel.

So my vote really doesn’t matter because we don’t elect the president anyway

A National Popular would lead to even less choice. You're relying on the population of Chicago, LA, San Francisco, NYC, Boston and Philly to decide the election. Their populations combined are around 17.6 million which is larger than the combined population of 14 of our smallest states. A direct popular vote would lead to those 6 cities deciding because they significantly outweigh the rest of the US

"The Electoral College are a bunch of officials who do the voting for us. So in case we elect the wrong person, they can fix that shizz! They do the real voting after we do our pretend voting! Our votes are like suggestions!" - Key and Peele

There's no way that America's smaller states will agree to turn over more power to the most populous states. A Constitutional Amendment to change this is a non-starter.

So he won’t say why it’s in place huh!! So sneaky.

our election system was specifically designed to not run on a popular vote! This prevents states with larger populations from always getting their way

the reason this doesn’t make sense is because it never did. get rid of the electoral college and give everyone multiple votes with the first one weighing more.

I STILL don't understand. Who/What is an elector?? How does the popular vote influence the electors?? You spend a majority of the video talking about what happens when the Presidency isn't decided by the electoral vote.... Has that ever even happened?? Whoever made this video either wanted the people to not understand or just didn't care to explain.

I’m so confused what is the purpose of voting

ITs fine how it is, no need to change it. It needs to go by Population Electoral College. It was Ratified in 1804 FOR A REASON. We cant have a few states with the biggest populations deciding everything for the whole United States.

This system needs to be changed, it makes no sense to even vote. It's so outdated, it's unbelievable.
