HANG ON, IT WILL PASS. EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS TEMPORARY.
I trained in medicine and psychiatry in Oxford. I am a long time friend of Mufti Menk. I now create media after Mufti Menk asked me to be involved with a mental health awareness drive for Muslims and all people of faith.
What is mental wealth? It is about knowledge and application of the following:
High mental performance, mental wellbeing, knowledge about Deen (faith), being a source of help for others, trying to live life in a decent Islamic way, being skilled or useful with something to give, being connected to people around you, being able to love and give of yourself, living and coping with difficulty well, appreciating things around you every day, being reflective, approachable, ambassadorial for your religion and your community, representing yourself and your people well, seeing the higher purposes and meanings to things, dealing with your faults and failures in a grown up way, accepting the limitations of life, knowing what counts, and being content with what God gives you. I mention this now because so much of your mental wealth comes from learning how to be your TRUE, GENUINE SELF- that is, a strong Muslim Mind has a strong HEART. The most precious part of the mind. The part that God judges us on, and potentially the most powerful part. Strangely, the part that most people neglect. So many people seem to fulfil their practice but don’t have insight. God has told us clearly- most blessed are those who reflect! How many months and years did the prophet spend in the cave, REFLECTING on life. How many of his Hadith are focussed on KINDNESS, GOOD CHARACTER, and life outside the basics of salaah? This is where mental wealth lies. It sounds like a long list of things. And we will cover every single part of it.
