Fiat 124 Spider review: Is it a true Italian sports car?

Fiat's Mazda MX-5 is here and we've taken to the roads in the 124 Spider. Has it taken a little help from Japan to resurrect the affordable Italian sports car? We just hat to find out...

In nutshell, the Spider is AWESOME! There's nothing like it. I keep trying to save mine as my "weekend" car, but the weekends keep getting longer. Excellent ride, excellent power, and over 32 mpg. My advice is-do NOT drive one, unless you're in the position to buy one because you'll never get to sleep until one is resting in your driveway.

I could tell immediately that is was derived from an MX5 but they've done a good job and to my eyes it even looks a little prettier. The other bonus with it being a turbo will be the engines tunability. No doubt a remap will be able to add another 30-40 bhp and that would give the pretty little flyweight some serious grunt.

I personally like the Mazda's looks more..but the Abarth 124 Spider with more power and a turbo engine sounds much more fun to drive on the daily without the need to wind out the engine. Can't go wrong with either though.

Test drove the US spec 124 and Fell In Love !!!    Ordered a Lusso with every factory option, except the auto...  getting six speed, dark gray / black interior...  Arrives in 4 weeks.. LOVE IT adding a semi-louder Raspier Exhaust system.. =)  THEN?...  PERFECT !!!

Not a fan of the looks on the 124, would rather have an MX-5 1.5 with an LSD and a supercharger :3

Great review! I don't know why people are complaining. The fiat is a good looking car, its much more stylish than the MX-5 although I would still prefer the Mazda.
