Trudeau says Poilievre’s “lack of ambition” as housing minister to blame for current crisis

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre challenged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the Liberals’ housing strategy during question period on Tuesday, targeting the Housing Accelerator Fund in particular.

“We see the Conservative leader's hypocrisy on full display,” Trudeau said, claiming that the Opposition leader has been delaying a debate on a Conservative housing proposal. “His clear lack of ambition on housing is partly how we ended up here in the first place.”

Poilievre responded by saying that, “When I was housing minister, we built 200,000 homes in one year and mortgage payments were half of what they are today. Fast forward to present, the Prime Minister has given a half billion dollars to Toronto City Hall to jack up new taxes on home building.”

Trudeau replied by saying the Conservative Leader was "simply all slogans and no answers.”

The bottom line is that; when Pierre Poilievre was the Housing Minister, there was very little need for government to be in the business of building homes. When Poilievre was Housing Minister, Canada was not accepting over One Million new immigrants per year into Canada that needed housing. When Poilievre was Housing Minister developers were building home with far less red tape and bureaucracy, labour costs and building material costs and land were a fraction of what they are today. When Poilievre was Housing Minister, it was far easier for young Canadians to save a down payment to purchase their first home. The difference between then and now is nine years of Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party.

Yeah and what was the population to housing ratio then as if mass immigration is irrelevant and why did Trudeau delay funding two years during the pandemic so building was halted? I don't doubt things were not perfect with the Conservatives also because I went to the occupy Vancouver protests in 2011 and people were already starting to complain about cost of living then but Trudeau lied and promised to improve things to get elected and he didn't keep his promises and things have gotten worse.
