Harley killed themselves. They have not diversified their products at all. They begged Reagan to put import tax on imported motorcycles over 700cc and in the long run they screwed themselves over because those outside companies started to make reliable smaller cc motorcycle which to this day is popular in America and the rest of the world.

When the owner of a dealership treats his customers with a "Harley Attitude", sales are bound to fall.

I'm from a younger generation and I definitely love Harley Davidson, but I cannot afford to spend that much money on a motorbike.

The reason:

Harley’s core demographic have aged and they have ignored young motorcyclist around the world for the better part which is why time and time new products failed to bring the success of old classic models

They’re exorbitantly overpriced for what they are, The selling of a rebel image crap doesn’t work anymore, consumers are clever and picky than ever before that’s why they lean towards brands which offers much more ie Triumph

The motorcycle are basic, heavy, underpowered and did I say overpriced compared to other premium brands

And for the better part they ignored the shift in motorcycle culture a few years ago supersport were all the rage then it shifted to retro roadster and cafe racer then to a huge shift to adventure and touring... while all these were happened Harley was stuck with making 80hp 500 lb cruiser for the “Rebel”

And the biggest offence was ignoring the giant Asian market, Harley made little to no effort to bring small capacity motorcycle for Asian market even though they already established dealership in major cities

They're an old man's bike. I'm 68, got my license at age 16. Consider myself still too young to ride a Harley. Maybe when I hit my 80's.

I will never forget the arrogance that I have experienced at Harley dealerships related to sales, parts & service.

Love when Americans say "in the world" when they really just mean their own backyard.
