Use this for a quick fix that last a couple of weeks. There has been an annoying squeaking sound from the engine compartment. I looked and it's coming from the serpentine belt. My car is Ford Crown Victoria. Tried it and it fixed the noise problem a little while. You'll possibly need to replace the belt and check the pulleys for permanent fix.

The belt dressing will prolonging the belt life for a while longer. Prestone Belt Dressing Eliminates Squeaks & Chatter. Conditions serpentine belts, V-belts, and fan belts to prolong belt life. Promotes better grip and traction. Restores original surface chemistry and friction to better grip the pulleys. Regular use advised. Helps prevent premature wear.

A serpentine belt also known as a multi vee or multi-rib belt is a single continuous belt used to drive multiple parts in an automotive engine, such as an alternator, power steering pump, water pump, air conditioning compressor. The belt may also be guided by an idler pulley or a belt tensioner.

Thank you I heard a very light squealing noise from my belt I sprayed water on it and it stopped. I had looked up lubricant for it and came across prestone dressing for the belt👍🏾

Belt dressing is great for refurbishing old typewriter rollers which do not feed the paper any longer. Spray it on a paper towel and wipe the roller completely. I have a Royal Safari portable I have had since 1980 and it would no longer fed the paper. I told a collector of antique typewriters about this and he told me about using belt dressing. I had some SNAP brand which was discontinued some years ago. Some other brand may work.

This explains why all of a sudden I get loud squealing after buying my car from a small dealer.

I just used this stuff for a very minor chirp and now it louder then hell! cant make it stop. may just need to replace the belts, just being cheap because it wasn't loud at all until I used this stuff.

I say to use 303 Protectant, used on rubber and plastics to resist drying out and cracking and it is water based .

303 is the best option all around, Took my squeak away indefinitely! Was $21 but beats the new alternator/ pulleys I thought I needed to buy, Regular belt dressings are ass, 303 is some next level shit trust me! If you pour water on the belt and it stops you know it’s a belt not a pulley problem.

Just got some PB BLASTER and blasted it on there. Sound was gone instantly and wont dry off as easy as WD40 putting grease first then dressing is probably better if youre going to waste money

Belt dressing is the best fix short of belt it rains. Then it becomes so slippery that you might lose your power steering! Even the alternator may not turn, I could tell by the reduced AC fan speed, lower voltage.

I put high end Continental brand belts on and they were squeal-less for maybe six to eight months. So, really, what gives? Why so common?

I've gotten temporary relief by roughing the flat surface with Scotch Brite. It is the flat surface that is the guilty side, at least in my GM 3800. Silicone spray, counter intuitively, works great. For awhile.

Belt Tends to make a noise after a few KMS, same affect if you use DW40 or Q20 rather diagnose whether serpentine belt needs replacement or pulley needs to be refitted/replaced. With these sprays you end up opening the Bonett more frequently than needed and can get grease on your hands.

nah man, leave the belt, sounds like a turbo

This is not a perm-fix! Oils, greases and etc, will destroy a belt! You need to change the belt and\or find the misaligned pulleys to perm-fix the squeaking.

the squeaking belt is not the problem it's a symptom of a major problem of bearing is going out in one of your pulleys it will eventually lock up destroying your belt while driving. this will leave you with no alternator to charge your battery, no water pump to cool your engine, no power steering, and the need to call tow truck. But at least then you'll know which pulley it was.
