So true! What helped me with my third tone as a self learner... was Chinese movies and how they said “Hǎo”. It always sounded (to my ear— like an evil villain rubbing their hands together lol) and I no longer suffer with this lol if I ever have a problem with the third tone in a word... I try saying it sinisterly lol it helps

Its a top bru. Im living in a country that has a tonal language as well and i totally get what you are talking about. They way tones are taught really differs from how they are pronounced.

Bruh, you're in Mexico? That's crazy because I've been studying Spanish for a while and I've gotten really really comfortable with it. I actually had my longest group call ever completely in Spanish last night and I hit it off with some strangers that didn't know any English, was an amazing time. I started to study Mandarin Chinese today because I got such a boost of confidence. I feel like I'm at the place with my Spanish where I can passively learn from here, or continue my routine and study a little mandarin to the side for a while. Obviously these are different languages but I'd really like to gain more fluency in Spanish and I've been eyeing up mandarin from afar for quite some time now.
