I’m happy to see someone more realistic to my annual income. I make around 60k in Chicago and want to get a 2Bd Rm. I’m 25 as well!! THANKS FOR THIS!

The key here is that she’s willing to leave LA. Most of the young people in her position don’t want to leave LA. She should either stay put, or move to a cheaper area. You can’t even find a studio in the slums of Hollywood for $1350. I wouldn’t advise her to come to northern CA either, it’s expensive here too.

1350 in LA ain't happening without roommates. No way.

She's going to be disappointed when she digs into the research. She needs to move out of state for a few years

If you work remotely and can work anywhere, go somewhere cheaper or don't complain about the costs. I like she said she's willing to relocate - and she should.

I like the idea of a hotplate and small fridge and staying put.

Our team is 100% remote. We get noticed all the time. Just got a cash bonus and a raise.

Riverside is way cheaper than LA. Northern California has some of the most expensive real estate in the country

Pay to install a kitchen in the in-law suite and sign a 10 year lease for $350/month ( current rent) and be rich

$1350 in LA, thats gonna be hard to find!! But truthfully, I think her income is going to go up faster than she is expecting it to.

She kinda sounds like me when I started out 20 years ago almost. I rented a room, in LA, and saved a ton of money. I invested a ton and put myself in a much better position and moved to a LCOL city later on. I did make more than her but the strategy would be similar.

1bd might be like $1, 800 but she can get a roommate and a 2bd for like $2, 300 to save money. She might as well get a mini fridge and a camping cooktop and stack up cash for a purchase outside CA.

Don't do it! Stay there as long as possible. Who cares about a kitchen.

Re: work from home and promotions. It really depends. I work for a company with only about 100 people who are all working at least hybrid (so no one really forgets anyone else), and the career track and timing of promotions in my field is more based on time spent doing it, not anything else

Ok Dave and Ken. I have worked for the same company for almost 20 rears. 15 of which have been from home. I have worked with a lot of great people made a lot of connections. I have never met most of the people I work with in person. It hasn't held me back.

She think she can get an apartment for 1.3k?
Get an electric hot plate and a fridge. And stay at your grandparents.

You can try outside areas like Palmdale. Shop around.
