Taylor Fritz Slice vs Flat Serve Comparison (Tennis Technique Explained)
1. Pronation happens on all serves
2. When hitting slice serves, swing more to the right of your target and stay more on edge at contact so most of the pronation occurs after
3. When hitting flat serves, swing more toward your target and only leaf slightly with the leading edge at contact so the amount of pronation before and after contact is more even

Thanks Ryan. This is excatly the video I needed. I have been having trouble trying to get my serve serve to be flat but have not found a video that explains the difference as much as this one.

Was working on the slice serve yesterday - and I was wondering what body mechanic should be emphasized to create this beloved left to right motion of the racquet?
I have a hunch that coiling in the trunk and hips and then doing a reactive break mid air sends the right arm out to the right. Ryan please let me know if this is correct, and how to properly do a flat serve in these terms as well.
Thanks for the educational content as always ❤

His arm is in the same position which indicates that a difference in the grip is the cause of the difference in racquet angle. The swing path is the other factor. They combine to impart the slice. I’m my opinion he’s less likely to try and manipulate the rotation of his arm (the timing of pronation) to get the desired effect.
