Kyrgios and Bublik do it, and it’s a travesty in the game. Murray does it and it’s brilliant.

At the beggining everybody was against the underarm serve. But Murray gave the right point about it. In an era where people are standing so far back behind the baseline, what would have been a foolish excentricity in past ages, it has become a powerful countertactic.
The popularization of the underarm serve is a sign of the times.

the players who complain about the underarm serve are always the most annoying

Bublik and Kyrgios is 90% of this video😂

Personally, I can't understand why some people blame players trying these kinds of plays. They just have to win the game, and there is no rules which ban those. Making tricks always has been part of sports.

I love how the ATP bridges the times during Grand Slam tournaments due to the fact that they are not part of the tour. 😉

When Murray did the underarm it's like people are confused because usually it's booed or whistled, but Bublik got booed for it

Im dreaming of a Kyrgios vs Bublik game. That would be wild.

The penultimate serve in the video by Cressy was amazing. I will go now to the court to practice it.

6:31 Rosols thinking process it’s just nuts. “Ok, so I lost 1st set 6-0; now 2nd set I’m a break up, can confirm my serve…yeah, time for the inverted serve”.

bublik doing that on match point is wild

I was at the Kyrgios match when he did the tweener serve in Atlanta. Even got it on video! Couldn’t believe it as I’d never even seen this on tour before, let alone in person! (July 2021)

You should do a video just on the reverse serve. And about using what grip etc.

Bublik's underarm is technically the best, hitting the ball low and with side spin. The goal is to double bounce it before the service line. Easier on clay and synth grass, hard court it's not that effective.

Would have been nice to include some crazy kick serves like maybe from Opelka or Shapo, and same crazy slice, maybe from Mannarino.

Very interesting! Thank you for the upload

underarm serves are a must for tennis.
those who complain are the ones standing 20 yards behind baseline trying to give selves all the time and space to adjust and hit a soft return.

I legitimately think the underarm serve is a criminally unexplored space. I'd consider most of the ones in this video "sloppy".

I think it can be optimized so that with only a very minor wrist movement one could serve a ball with their choice of either heavy top or back spin. Even myself in my profound mediocrity can occasionally get one to have its second bounce land within the service box, but I think pros could do that consistently.

And because of the ability to choose top and side spin, it'd be almost impossible to know if the serve was going to drop dead from back spin or slice hard to the side.

Between the potential for optimization, variation, and the fact that opponents still expect a hard, traditional serve, I firmly believe the underarm could be developed to the point where top players could use it 20 to 25% of the time.

I feel like there are a lot more varieties and nuances in serves than in this video. T, out wide, body serve, sweeping slice, late action slice (in baseball this is called a cutter), flat serves with high bounce/low bounce/english, kick serve out wide, kick serve over the head. That's just on the ball movement. If you are including the service motion you can also distinguish between the classic fed/novak style, roddick/kyrgios shortened style, and let's not forget the lefty slice out wide.... This can be like a 3 part series imo
