Defunct Games reviews LOUD: My Road to Fame, available February 23 on PC and coming soon to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Previously available on Switch.

While a bit on the predictable side, LOUD: My Road to Fame is an enjoyable rhythm game with a strong selection of songs, some cool backgrounds and a likable young rocker named Astrid. It does a good job of using a standard game controller to approximate what it’s like to play a fake plastic guitar, and the gameplay is easy to pick up and full of hidden depth on the higher difficulties. Unfortunately, LOUD is marred by a story that is a bit too straight-forward for its own good and a soundtrack full of songs that sound half-finished. There’s no doubt that this is a fun rhythm game, but if I’m being completely honest, I’m way more interested in what happens to Astrid after the credits roll.

Played the heck out of “Um Jammer Lammy” back on original PlayStation,
Switch gem nobody knows about is “Lanota”, had to remind myself
what the title even was. Worth a look.

My favourite rhythm game is songbird symphony! That game is so cute and it mixes platfofming, puzzles and rythm in such a charming way!

Original music isn't always a bad thing. Looks like this has a cool backstory to it.

QOTD, Persona dancing all night.

QOTD: My favorite rhythm games are Guitaroo man and the Rhythm Heaven games.

A rhythm game I really liked was Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. It used a system where the characters would attack enemies that represented hitting the notes in the music. There was a lot of freedom with which buttons you felt comfortable using for performing these actions. It even had a little bit of a story making it feel less like an ignorable spin-off title and more part of the series as a whole. Even though it might seem a bit niche, since it only appeals to fans of this one game series, I like that they were willing to give the spotlight to the awesome and varied soundtracks these games have and I'd love to see other franchises embrace this style too.

I guess as long as the game ends before the MC goes into the heavy drugs, should be an alright game. 😉😂🤣 But seriously, does indeed sound interesting. As for the question, I'm going to go with PaRappa The Rapper. That's one of those, even losing makes me laugh, so I don't mind it too much.

Based on how you described the gameplay, it sounds to me like a Superbeat clone, only with rock music and a story arch.

... not necessarily a rhythm game but is music based - beat hazzard ...
