I remember when my two cats went into heat for the first time, they were starting to become diphonic from all the meowing, it sounded like they were in pain while horny, and it was clearly an awful experience for them. We were adviced not to spay them while in heat so we actually had to wait for the heat to go away. They are all good now, they were both spayed on the same day, thankfully, but those days I wished I could share a tiny fraction of their pain

Here's some info about animal "periods" from an assistant veterinary nurse.
For animals we typically say the 'go into heat' rather than "have their period". Cats, dogs and many other mammals have what's called an 'estrous cycle', which means that they reabsorb their uterine lining and therefore do not bleed as much
during their cycle (it is very rare for cats to bleed when in heat, dogs typically bleed a small amount). This differs from a menstrual cycle in which the female sheds her uterine lining and therefore bleeds much more. Cats are what's called 'polyoestrous' which means that they go into heat more than once per year. For cats this is about every 2-3 weeks and their cycle lasts for about a week on average. Which as you can probably imagine is pretty frustrating for the individual, which is why we recommend you get your female cats spayed.

For everyone who dont know:

Cats getting their period means coming in heat and it remains for 7 days every month, this means they either have to breed with another male cat or get spayed which is a surgery that removes a part of their body that stops their period forever and the ability to breed is deactivated. Stop hating on her guys she cant spay the cat untill the heat/period is over and they dont bleed either in this process. Thats all guys dont hate on her lol

When female cats go into heat (oestrus), it means they are looking to attract a mate. This is also a time when they have their periods, although bleeding doesn't usually happen for cats. Only cats who are not spayed go into heat, and it can be stressful and occur more frequently if they never find a mate. Please spay your pets yall

Spaying is to remove the ovaries and uterus through surgery in order to prevent a female animal (typically dog or cat) from reproducing.

Neutering or castration is to remove the Testicles of a male animal in order to prevent it from reproducing.

Spaying and Neutering (fixing) a dog or cat is very beneficial and recommended as it helps the animal health and behavioral wise.

in my opinion as someone who has owned a cat for my entire life, not getting them spayed/neutered is abusive and inhumane, there's no reason not to and it's so much cheaper than fixing whatever problems that heat will cause later, including death.

For people who are confused about cats having periods: if an animal has a womb, it has periods, so it includes all mammals (maybe other groups too but I'm not sure). But it's not every month like humans, it depends on the reproductive cycle of the species. Not all species have blood loss during this time but some does, including apes and bats, a lot of species also have blood loss but simply reabsorb it inside the body.

Please get her spayed. It will help her so much through her life, reduce the risk of pregnancy even if you don’t have a male cat/have a male cat around, and her attitude will improve.
