I use solid 12 guage 1 1/4" long, 5/8 shrink wrap. Great to have a couple on hand.

May I ask what width/diameter shrink wrap you used? Thanks for the video and apologies if I missed the answer

I made a couple of these. They work great! For one of them I had two ATC fuse holders that were already on wire. I used that in between so I have a fused link. I made mine longer, but I may do a shorter one like yours to throw in my pack. Thanks for the video!

I standardized on 40A power poles. It just makes things easier given their open design Vs. the 30A. This is especially true for me as I tend to oversize wire for an extra safety factor. I never thought of doing this but it could be useful. Nice video.

I agree with other comments; properly crimped connections *shouldn’t* need solder. But not everything goes to plan and sometimes we use cheap connectors. I would recommend applying a little liquid flux before soldering. Will make your joints flow like butter.

Great idea. I already have everything I need, except that cool soldering stand.

I've had one of these in my kit(even pre ham license) for years. It got me out of several binds!

All of a sudden, in the last month or two, I'm seeing these pop up on several ham tubes, why is that?

Maybe I missed something but why did you solder a crimped connector? The crimp is more than sufficient.

why is there a need to solder if you've used the proper crimp/ crimp tool?

Dude! Thanks for the idea. I've gotta put some of these in my kit. Nice to have when you have a MacGyver situation.... seconds count, can he get power to his radio in time? Find out in the next episode of The Ham Ninja 😛😛😛

Nice Kyle, thank you for sharing. Love the tutorial. I am always interested in learning something new. I do need to learn how to solder and put stuff together. I will one day put a kit together. Thank you Kyle.

I was lazy and picked these up at Hamvention but it's great to see how I can make them on my own.
