There are 4 basic driving modes hiding in your BMW system: BMW ECO Pro mode, BMW Comfort mode, BMW Sport mode, BMW Sport Plus mode.

0:00 Intro
0:45 BMW ECO Pro mode – focuses on fuel efficiency and mpg.
1:35 BMW Comfort mode – the basic mode best for everyday comfort driving.
2:04 BMW Sport mode – increases engine torque and firmer wheel handling.
2:57 BMW Sport Plus mode – switches the Dynamic Traction Control off.

Although the first three are enabled in your BMW by default, BMW Sport Plus mode will often need to be unlocked. Fortunately, BimmerTech has you covered.

There’s a bit to unpack and add to this.

Based on my M235i, if in auto mode, Sport and Sport+ may hold the gear longer, but that doesn’t provide more torque, as that is pretty much at maximum from 2k rpm through the range. You get more power in the higher rev range, but the power available in Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and the modes not mentioned here (more on those later) does not change. The throttle response changes, so if you change from Sport to Comfort at constant throttle the engine reins in a bit, but that’s because the throttle response changes. You need more throttle command in Comfort compared to Sport to get the same power, but you get the same power.

Sport+ switches off DSC (hence the wiggly lines light) and switches on DTC. DTC gives you less intrusive electronics, so if you want to fool around at roundabouts but not end up calling the tow truck to get pulled off the island, go Sport+.

There are two other modes available. Hold the DSC button for around 10 sec (I think) puts you in DSC OFF mode. No traction control at all, but you get the Comfort throttle response, so it is more linear and controllable, but all the power is still available. The e-diff is active in this mode which uses the brakes to control excessive inside wheel spinning. This is the doughnuts in the car park mode, AKA the Widowmaker.

Finally, there is TRACTION mode. This is DSC off, DTC on, Comfort throttle and soft dampers. This is for snow / slippery conditions.

As I say, this is based on my M235i, but the basic information should translate. I believe on other cars there are changes to engine mapping, but not sure.

I thought the only difference with sport+ mode from sport mode was traction control turned off. I thought everything else was the same. Is this not correct?

Nice content. Just a question: is it possible to set the Eco mode by default? I tried, but I couldn't manage. The car always start on the comfort mode. Mine is a BMW 328i 2013

I tend to drive in eco pro mode all the time as I like the handling and from standstill it picks up very quick (335d) can I do any damage by never really thrashing it in sport

Great info! You say "if applicable, your suspension is gonna be stiffer" (in Sports mode) - do you mean if you've got adaptive suspension option?

Digging up an older video, but noticed on some f10 the comfort+ mode like on f01, is it coded or built in on some specific configurations?

What does setting ENGINE setting (comfort/sport/sport+) do? It supposedly has less throttle response, but it feels so much smoother than sport or sport+. Maybe it's less sensitive but more linear/smoother?

So if i understand you right, Sport and Sport+ will be the same but it is still there ? nothing will change if i go to sport+ ?
I have a F11550d 2013 and cant really feel any change between the 2.

Please tell me if it is possible to deactivate both DSC & DTC in sport+ without switching me back to normal(comfort) mode.
Being unable to figure it out till now is very frustrating.

(p.s: I'm a pro drifter I have a 2jz swapped e46 track car and I dont apply any of that on the streets definitly. So lets speak of what's after the safety precautions).

I have a stock F20/N13 with cold intake only so basically stock which i use getting around daily. I have the sport+ mode from the manufacturer already.

Looking forward to learn from your knowledge.

Have a good one

When I try to select my gear mode, the gear is in on whatever mode I choose but in less than 15 seconds it goes back to Comfort on its own. Very weird! I don’t know what to do to fix it! Any suggestions?
