Electronic Gear Shift Sports Mode | BMW How-To

Are you ready to unlock the true power of your BMW? When tuning into sports mode inside your car, you're enabling the BMW engine to fully accelerate. Once ""DS"" ( aka drive sport) is displayed on the instrument cluster, sports mode is on.

Sports mode reveals a faster gear ship, allowing for higher RPMS and faster performance.

Most BMW models with automatic transmissions feature a sports mode. You can see in this example highlighting the 3 Series sedan, sports mode is activated by putting the transmission into ""drive"" and pulling the shifter to the left, until locking into position.

Additionally, you gain the ability to manually shift the transmission.
- To upshift: Pull the selector rearward
- To downshift: Pull the selector downwards

The selected gear will be displayed on the instrument cluster.

Now, what happens when you use the button to the left of the gear shift?

I have a CPO 2017 X5 50i and when I move my shift knob to the left, it doesn't stay, it pops back to 'D'. I can see on the display it shows S1 or M2, but it goes to 'D' immediately as I let go the knob moves back to the right.

Am I doing something wrong?

why do car companies feel they need to make things incredibly complex to impress? keep it simple. if i have to go online to find out how to shift my car into drive or reverse, there's a problem.
