OR, fill half with sand then dirt then flower. The water drains and holds at the bottom. Less watering while keeping roots happy! Works great in the desert. 👍

I really love sun patients. That's an awesome hack I'll have to remember that one. Awesome idea!

I love huge planters. We filled the bottom of two large wide round planters w/ 2 litre empty bottles w/ the lid on so that they would stay relatively “light” and the pair of them now have large gorgeous mop-head hydrangeas in them. They have been in there for three years and we did it that way so we could take them w/ us when our new gets built. So gorgeous!!❤

I've used the same dirt for 10 years . I just pull the old roots out and add a little fresh dirt around the new plant. Easy peezy

You can put the plate in a nylon stocking to keep the drainage holes from clogging.

Love impatiens. My mom had a big black plastic planter - looked kind of like those plastic cauldrons you see around Halloween time - and for Mother's Day each year I'd get a bunch of impatiens - different colors - and then fill up the planter with the flowers, and it would sit on the back porch where we spent a lot of the nice weather. She really liked it. By the time the middle of the summer came about they'd really fill out and it looked beautiful.

Those flowers are so hardy and beautiful!

🤔🤔🤔. Put weed barrier cloth over the plate to prevent the hole in the plate from getting clogged by the soil.

I did something similar recently with old plastic containers, made holes for drainage and added a bunch. It’s so much better, cause who can afford to waste too much soil? It’s working so far for some herbs I’m growing.

It's like you read my mind. I need to re-pot a plant in a tall pot. I like the way you think❤️. Thanks girl, for the tip!!♥️🙏

I've used those packing peanuts - for shipping. Depending on the plant's root needs (shallow vs. deep root structure) I'll fill the pot with the peanuts then soil on top.
It makes it less heavy and I can move it around by myself with less effort.
I loved the video though. Gotta try out this hack!
Thanks! ❤ 🌱

I fill completely my pots. I don't change the dirt for years. I just top it off every year with fresh dirt. So it's not a waste. If i ever want to toss it, it goes into the yard.

It surprises me that so many people never thought of this😊

You can always reuse soil so it’s technically never a waste.

Use mulch at the bottom. It is light, so you can move the pot around.

Ok i was just about to buy a thingy from Bloem, for $11 because i really want to plant my Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum into a tall planter, and its one my plant grow with over tje years, but its too big currently. I have these plates! Kicking myself for not thinking of this myself. Thank you for saving me a little cash!

I would have never thought of that. I have some massive clay planters that weigh a ton because they’re filled with soil.

Or add empty water bottles with the lid on to half full. Then put dirt and plants in. Lightweight and saves dirt

Or, if you want to grow medicinal herbs, plant marshmallow in there so you can let the roots go really deep and get more marshmallow root. One of my favorite medicinal herbs!
