An issue I came across a lot was seath just rotating a ridiculous amount and spamming tail attacks. So I would suggest dying the first time and coming back after for tailcut

The real boss fight is cutting off the tail... I was able to do it with this strategy, and I wanted to share some tips to make it clearer how to do it. As others suggested you probably won't be able to do it when you first enter the arena, so bone out or die the first go around. Enter the arena, run forwards for just a bit, wait until he gets closer and bait out an attack. Start running around his left until you get behind him, then make sure he does his tail slam attack. If you manage to run too far without him doing that he will just turn around and you're back to square one. If he does his tail slamming it will give you enough time to reach the crystal, breaking it will stun him for long enough for you to get to his tail. Aim for the tip, make sure you use the highest damage you have access to.

I got lucky with him using his AOE crystal attack while running to the crystal on my successful attempt, that'll probably give you the best shot at this. Just keep at it, you'll get it eventually.

I was gonna do it on my first try, I got him to half health with just tail damage, didn’t know I was supposed to be hitting the top of his tail😭

thank you so much for this strat, i almost lost my shit cause this was the last weapon i needed for knight trophy and i was on new game ++ already so i couldnt cut of the tail of that fucker seath until i tried to buff my weapon damage as much as possible and just destroy the crystal myself as u did in the video (most other people waited for seth to destroy it but atleat on maybe new game ++ that didnt work at all), thank god it worked in the end haha \o/

Another garbage fromsoft mechanic. Lets lock one of the best int weapons behind a boss that requires you to melee off the tail, and lets put it behind one of the most annoying azz boss runs. No, thats not enough, lets throw 20 clams in front of the fog gate. Seath isnt even a hard boss. Gave up trying to get the sword and just killed him in about 20 seconds.

Does not work anymore in 2023.
In one of the last patches the character speed was nerfed. All characters now run slower. Firstly, you can't get around the dragon quickly enough and secondly, the tip of its tail is no longer on the ground. When he turns, firstly he is turning faster than you can run to his tail and secondly the tip of the tail is now in the air. In addition, the AI now spams the tail strike attack much more often as soon as you try to get behind him. Another problem, 90% of the time the tip of the tail is out of bounce. So not reachable at all. So you can't hit it anymore. It's only possible in the coop. If someone stops the dragon from turning around.

Trivial question but what did u mean by crystal weapon? Isnt that assumed already by "Crystal Halberd" ? Also what NG cycle was this? NG? NG+1? NG+2?..

EDIT:
In the video, he uses
Crystal Halbert +2 (Weapon)
Crystal Magic Weapon (Sorcery that buffs the weapon)
Red Tearstone Ring (boosts damage by 50% when health is below 20%, hence his low HP)
Grass Crest Shield (increased stamina)
NG (as opposed to NG+, where Seath's HP would be higher)
