A fun fact is, the British devoted a crap ton of money and military resources to try to end slavery in the 1800s while most of the world still practiced it.

DOESN'T it just make you PROUD to be BRITISH 🇬🇧👍🤣🤣🤣
Times and attitudes were very much different back then, much different to the attitudes of today, but if it hadn't been us BRITS, then it would of been
The FRENCH, the SPANISH, the DUTCH or even the PORTUGUESE, it just so happens that we had the best NAVY, and people in charge who had some backbone, not like the limp- wristed bedwetter politicians that we have in power nowere days
Back then we were the BRITS ON TOUR, and we just loved our foreign hollidays 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
EMPIRES do rise and fall, and so it came to pass ! 😩😩😩

When you consider how small Britain is, it is amazing how much of the world they ruled. There was a saying during the 1800s that the sun never set on the British Empire.

Hence the saying, "The sun never sets on the British Empire"

The British did FAR more good than not, only a person with a gigantic chip on their shoulder would say otherwise.

The British didn't "write a list" of nations to invade. Most nations were invaded due to fighting with the other then empires, the French, Spanish, Portugese, Dutch etc. And also competing with those empires. One thing is 100% certain, the British left all occupied nations in a better position than when they went in!

Geez!! No wonder English is the most spoken language in the world!

The British empire was the biggest the world has ever seen, there is an old saying that the sun never sets on the British empire....it meant that no matter what time of day or night the sun is shining on a country that is in the empire..
Thomas Sowell has a great view on how it was possible for the British empire to exist.
But one thing that the majority of the old colonies don't mention about the British, is that although it may not have been very pleasant for the population being governed by a foreign power the only way the British could stay in control was to improve the lives of the ordinary people,
This was usually done by introducing trade routes that opened up the chance to have a better life, built new harbours and infrastructure to get the goods to the ships, introduced the rule of law that covered and treated everyone the same, introduced local government that had the power to tax business in order to build houses to attract people to work in the new area ( loading and unloading ships, creating a service industry for the maintenance and repair of ships, ships supplies merchants, sailmakers and rope makers etc etc) all of which made the people a chance to earn money for a better but the other thing is that they didn't interfere with traditions and customs and culture and religion, nor did they remove the people who used to be in charge they let the people think that not much had changed, but pulled the strings behind the scenes, as a reward for this the front men got well paid and gave them high status and even had their children go to the best English schools( the idea was that when they came back they would take the place of their fathers but with the advantage of being pro British) the most well known issue with the none interference policy in traditions was in India where the custom of burning the living wife on the pyre of the dead husband did not sit well with the British, but as the British were often reminded that they could do nothing about it the custom went on for years.... until the British viceroy to India made it clear that if we allow the traditions and customs of India to be practiced then the Indians must allow the British to practice our and it's a British custom to hang soon stopped...
Basically in order to occupy and govern a population it has to improve life and living standards for the people, a few thousand British troops could not have held power over millions of Indian people without some kind of incentive and a better life than

They missed off the Falkland Islands which are still British and Argentina want back so much they invaded and lost them in 1982 in the Falklands war.

The thing to realise is a lot of the invasions were because another European nation had either got there first or were about to, it was a competition between the European Empires. So the hate from the British wasn't towards the Africans or Asian, it was against the French mostly

England and Btitain are not the same. I know you Americans think they are, butvthey are not. It's a bit like referring to a Canadian as an American as opposed to a North American. A subtle but important distinction.

I learned a lot, too, Adogg - Thanks.
One thing they forgot to mention was
The British Invasion of 1964 to 1967 -
The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Zombies, The Yardbirds, The Kinks....
But that was a different kind of invasion.
A good one.
You might like to react to this movie about our fight for independence from the British:

Made it to the end again with you, Adogg. 👍🏻 First thing to consider is he used the word invaded for almost every military action they ever took in the past 3 or 4 centuries. For example, during the two world wars - Britain, along with many other nations, "invaded" many countries that Hitler took over in WWII and other lands that fell to the enemies during the first world war. So scratch them as invasions.

With that said, before 1776 when we started slapping them around, (just kidding a little, UK cousins), the British had the largest Navy in the world, by far. Ships were the only way to get around and Britain did go everywhere and take a lot of nations over and ruled them for centuries. That's why the English language is spoken in more countries than any other. They still are in charge of many nation states and islands. So is the US. Puerto Rico, Aruba and several Caribbean islands are US colonies. Idk if we ever invaded them or they just wanted our protection and became a colony. Idk a lot about this stuff either but I want you to realize that this video is a little misleading bc there wasn't enough time to explain why they "invaded" so much around the world. Back then your Navy was everything and the British definitely ruled the seas for a long time. Peace out, my brother ✌🏼 Great video as usual!!

A few crazy stats for you. At the height of the British Empire in 1918 the British empire ruled over 413m people with a military of only 4m men. The population of Britain at the time was 40m. A tenth of British people were in the military. Of the 20m males there were 12 million men of fighting age ( 16-41 at that time ) 1 in every 3 men of fighting age were in the armed forces. To put that in context to America today. That would be the equivalence of 40m American men in the military. Around 17 times bigger than it is today. British men at that time were hard core. The other two thirds were involved in heavy industry like ship building and steel works. Add in miners, fisherman, dockers, builders. Add brains and plenty of balls. You have a tiny nation that can do insane things. 3 million German soldiers were super close to taking over the world too. Never underestimate what 3-4 million men together can do. Imagine what 4 billion men together as one could do. We'd take over the fucking galaxy in a 3 or 4 Milleania. lol

The simplist way to think of the British in the past, don't piss them off. Just like the USA today.

There’s a reason they said the sun never set on the British Empire. The Royal Navy made them a world power. Note many of these invasions were part of wars with other European Empires. Especially French, Dutch, and Spanish Empires. While the British Army was a rugged force it was diplomacy that did the most to expand their empire, especially in India.
