Thank you so much for this video! The colonisation of Siberia is a severely underrated topic!

The epidemics in Siberia are clearly underestimated in this video. The main difference is, that the actual colonization of many of the central and western parts of USA took place in quite short period during the 19th century, while colonizing of Siberia took centuries, starting in the 13th century already (when Novgorod was collecting tribute from the Ugric tribes), intensified after conquering the Khanate of Siberia in the 1580's, and the conquest and subjugating of the tribes was largely completed by the middle of the 18th century. Therefore, the consequences are less documented and spread in a long period, but not less fatal. The ethnic map of Siberia changed a lot, many tribes like all of the Southern Samoyeds except the Selkups became totally wiped off, and some others, like Yukaghirs, once inhabiting vast areas, went close to extinction. Even about the most numerous people today, the Yakuts, the estimations are, that 70-80% of them died of smallpox and other diseases, when colonized by Russians.

i heard there was a mutual fascination between the usa and the russian empire in the 19th century due to historical similarities, pioneer expansion, railway to the west, railway to the east, love of the frontier and all things french

The difference is in Siberia there is Altay Republic, Tuva Republic, Sakha Republic, Buryatia, Khakassia, and etc. These people are given somewhat of an autonomy over there regions while Native Americans live in reservations.

one similarity between the colonization of both siberia and the US is that the russian empire used cossacks to explore siberia and claim land for the state, while in the US, ranchers, farmers and even opportunists went outside the borders of the US to have land for themselves, but at the same time having to deal with the natives, and also in texas' history, they even had to deal with the mexican army

But the settlement of the US did, over time, become a state venture as it did in Russia. Indians were systematically placed on reservations and plots of land were granted to settlerd through the homestead act. Originally both were unauthorized, but their benefits were recognized and state support was given.

Definitely have to agree, The conquest and wars of territorial expansion between Russia and its natives to United States natives is very similar. Both were examples of stronger nations exerting themselves over weaker ones, and both existed not for any purpose in result of native aggression but simply of national protection, as in those times in both America and Russia it was the most peaceful and your neighbors not always the most reliable, Russia for reasons like national defense pushed its borders as far as they could go, and same with America, as they feared a British or European influence and invasion from its west in California, it sought to invade natives and Mexico to ensure its national territory protection, and of course the spoils and added benefit was all the mineral and regional valuables like the California coast and gold fields. For Russia it was the benefit of the multiple ports, and trade routes it gained in result of expansion. Theres a statement made by opponents of the United States expansion wars such as the Mexican war of 1846, that give good contact of the similarly and nature of that war of its time and refers to Russian expansion as similar “ Our Mexican War is as good, and as bad, as the war of France against the Algerines, - that of the Russians against the Circassians, - and that of the English against the Sikhs. And, if we speak of dismemberment, Poland now stands not alone. But if the period should ever arrive when the largest republic on earth, next to our own, and the most hopeful and consistent one, is blotted out of the record of nations and becomes the “Poland of the West”, we shall stand condemned in the eyes of heaven
and our own. as the authors of so tremendous a catastrophe.”

If you want to read up on this I’ll attach the links, pretty interesting and great anti war sentiment expressed against the Mexican American war and similar wars

The difference is that Russia has not only colonized the regions, but has also appropriated everything for itself culturally, economically and in terms of resources. Russian culture is basically nothing more than a series of different cultures. For example, the Cossack culture from Kuban and Zaporizhia, costumes from the Caucasus, songs and dances from Circassia and culinary specialties from Central Asia and the Far East. That is why experts keep asking themselves: "What is Russia or what is Russian?" Russia is the most fascinating anachronism in history. It is the last revanchist, colonial, chauvinistic superpower that is cheered on by the fascist population. It never experienced an independent coming to terms with its own war crimes, like Nazi Germany or Japan or Great Britain. On the contrary, the country does not want to come to terms with its own colonial and war crimes. Both the Kremlin and its population want to sweep everything under the carpet and keep quiet
