ME1 actually had a villain that had a real, justifiable and understandable motive, and it really draws on my moral compass. Not only that but it's world building and how everything connected in the trilogy makes it one of the best games I've personally enjoyed. Relieving planet exploration and crew recruitment is something I would love to experience again for the first time, such a shame!

Personally I just refer to the whole trilogy as one big game and don't really have a favorite. They're all incomplete without each other.

EA never understood Mass Effect. I like ME2, but the writing started taking some hits in ME2 and that just got accelerated to ridiculous levels in ME3. I wonder how the trilogy would have turned out if it stayed with Microsoft Game Studios.

The scale and feeling of being a frontier explorer of uncharted worlds to unravel a galactic Fermi Paradox conspiracy was something that hit so fucking hard the first time and it still hits now.

I actually read all the planet descriptions piecing the story together so when I met Sovereign I was absolutely fucking stunned as a 16 year old.

But... but but but if I had to only pick one thing that solidifies this game as the best among them it's the ending and end credits song. I've never felt a journey come to such a finalized note and have it tied up with the best sci-fi sounding rock single I've ever heard.

Nothing not even my experience as a kid with Halo can top that moment of just "what do I do now?" with the black screen and credit roll of Mass Effect 1, the Normandy going into slip space, and the song by Faunts starting is just so damn iconic and core memory inducing.

I think one of the worst things they did was remove the item and upgrade system from ME1. On top of that, 2 and 3 kinda just felt like a rail shooter for a good chunk of those games.

I remember getting the Kinect Xbox bundle that came with MW2 and Mass Effect 2. MW2 was historic and I played it endlessly but ME2 was something else extraordinary. All these years later and I’ve played 1 2 and 3 religiously and is still one of my favorite franchises of all time. The Mass Effect lore is extremely interesting and deep. Nothing else like it

With no nostalgia or hype I can definitively say Mass Effect 1 is the best game. I was glued to my game and couldn’t get enough of the story and gameplay. When I got to 2 I gradually lost interest and just gave up on it, 1 is just a much better role playing experience.
