Great looking setup, however I am going to use Valchromat for the top it is similar to MDF but far superior .

A 4" back splash would be nice to stop bits and pieces from falling off the back. Once you get drawers in it's gonna be a pain in the neck to retrieve whatever falls back there.
I have a similar set up except I did a level toe kick and open cabinets. I installed 1/2" plywood over the stud wall then scribed my worktop to it.

Spriral downcut router bits are the bomb. Zero tear out.
