Hey Chris, watching you from Nairobi. South Sudan is the ancestral land to my Luo community where we migrated from during precolonial times and most of the cultures are still similar to ours. The belling of the bull or as the proverbial saying goes: who will bell the cat? is meant to keep a notorious bull (or cat) in check by alerting garden owners when they are about to stray into their crops as they approach so that way they are kept at bay. But the gonging of the bell as the bull moves can also keep witches and wild animals like hyenas away from the kraal or village where other cattle and livestock are kept at night.
