Levitation Powers From High Voltage (World First?)

Показать описание
At the turn of the last century, NASA discovered the process of High voltage Electrostatic Levitation. Digging into the idea, this video explores the application of this process to the human body, giving users the ability to levitate small objects. Is this a step toward something greater?

Plasma Fam! Thanks for such kind comments, and i'm thrilled you enjoyed the video! It's my end goal to spread a love of physics and high voltage, so, if this video made you think, or inspired you, I encourage you to share this video with your friends / family. The more people we can reach, the more we can inspire.

This appeared on my recommended and I thought it was just clickbait but it ended up being a very informative video. Subbed

BTW: Testimonies of people in the near-presence of lightning strikes have described short-term levitation as part of the experience. I was in Boston at the Museum of Science several years ago & I met a man in the Theater of Electricity who described his experience of being at ground zero during a lightning strike. Being levitated moments BEFORE the strike was part of his experience. Very fascinating.

This man is really underrated. He deserves millions of subs for his hardwork and quality. Great video brother. Keep going

Edit: never got so many likes❤️

I like this a lot. The especially interesting part to me is that this system only achieves quasi stability because it *isn't* in a vacuum, whereas so much physics taught in the classroom assumes a vacuum to the point of borderline ignorance.

Without the air to act as an ion channel needed to achieve negative feedback, it seems like this system would have exactly one unstable equilibrium point somewhere near the midpoint between the plates and getting it to sit there would be like balancing a pencil on its sharpened tip.

I wonder if gluing some very small neutral mass (like individual grains of rice or something) would make the smaller foil even easier to control, since there will be a little more mechanical inertia in the system while the electrical side is relatively unchanged.

4 years ago when I was 12 I invented the Idea of using high voltages electrostatic electricity to create levitation. It's nice to see someone else figuring this out. You are a brilliant scientist and deserve much more recognition. I am currently figuring out how to levitate larger objects with only one plate

MAN!!!! I am literally clapping right now! 👏👏👏

I'm sharing this right now to my students, great great work, congratulations.

Awesome experiment Jay! You're crazy, connecting that power supply to your feet! I've been looking for an excuse to build that voltage multiplier...

Very cool indeed. Since Thomas Townsend Brown in 1928 there have been many 'ion wind' experiments and almost a paper per year is written about the effect. It's been replicated in a vacuum and in oil baths to eliminate ion wind. Physics still doesn't fully understand the effect. The Honda R&D Institute did the oil bath experiment and there was a 3% apparent loss in mass of a symmetric capacitor, though many of the experiments detail asymmetric capacitors. Power to ya :)
