Man this song brings me back. Just having it play as ambience while I skated the beach alone as a kid.

Two of these pancake coil style counter rotating inside an negatively charged/grounded aluminum hulled craft and you’d have some lift with high enough voltages

This is what tesla was trying to create when he caused a power outage in Colorado

So your toaster gets hot, because it's grounded at the end of the wires, I think. Electricity flows in a circle, so when it hits the end of the wire, it has nowhere to go and bounces back to its source, imparting electromagnetic energy on the wire as it goes.

Tesla coils aren't grounded, so the energy flows straight into the gas in the atmosphere... and shouldn't produce much heat on the coil.

In the vacuum of space, without gas, ithe vacuum would act as insulation, grounding the tesla coil, and then it would probably get hot like a toaster then... you need gas as a medium to transfer electricity.

Like in stick welding, if you touch the rod and let it stick, it doesn't spark, but gets hot and melts, but the same stick, struck and pulled away, ionizes the gas in the air around it, and melts at a predictably slower and more consistent rate.

I think with different materials, you can transfer electric current without generating much heat and melting the wire.
