OMG, the price. As an expat Britain living in Australia the lowest price model is the equivalent of less than £28, 000 on current exchange rates. That’s getting towards half the price. We don’t have import tariffs on vehicles of this value though we do have purchase taxes so it’s safe to assume that when you buy one of these in the UK more than half of that sticker price is tax.

I test drove this (the top Excellence version) a while back, together with a Ford Capri (MEB variant) and Xpeng G6 (another Chinese car), and out of those three I'd probably have taken the Xpeng, or the BYD, but certainly not the Ford, which was a lot noisier, more plastic, and less comfortable and less performant than the Chinese. BYD Sealion7 was most luxurious and quietest (and most power) by far but I had issues with the usability of the infotainment system and the driver assistance system. Xpeng was also quieter, more luxurious, better tech and infotainment than the Ford. The thing is all three are in the same size and price range (like Id.4, Enyaq, ModelY), but Chinese ones offer more for the same money (or less, the Xpeng is much cheaper than the other two). The Chinese are really pulling out all the stops and making top notch EVs. The Ford felt like an EV of yesteryear despite itself being the top of the Capri range. Still, what I'm really waiting for is the Smart #5, another Chinese car... 😅

Seems like an overall good vehicle. I'm warming up to BYD. Well done

The added tax in UK is wild. A BYD Seal in Hong kong is around £28k ish...

I've just had a good look at one of these Sealion 7s (and the Shark pick up PHEV) in Australia. The EV technology is up there with Tesla but the build quality and materials are way ahead. Early Japanese cars were always quite loaded with kit as standard and reliable (which was their USP in Europe and North America), but BYD is delivering cutting edge technologies like the blade batteries, very high build quality and competitive pricing.

Regardless of whatever you think about EVs, SUVs, range anxiety, charging networks, Chinese cars, EV depreciation etc, consumers will decide if they are any good or not and in my view, BYD will be everywhere in the next 5-7 years.

Just tested the Sealion 7, here in Australia, a week ago. Loved the car but the Australian importers have decided that we can only have one interior upholstery colour and that is black. Black seats, black doors, black headlining, just too black for me. When the Seal launched you could get a light blue or the black but then they stopped the light blue and now it’s all black. Later that same day I took the Polestar 4 for a test. I have ordered the Polestar 4 (yes I know it is a lot dearer) but I just loved it. Sealion 7 is still excellent.

The Sealion 7 has been on sale here in Thailand for a few months starting at £26k. I enjoyed my test drive, but I was comparing it to my BYD Seal AWD which I've owned since 2023. It definitely didn't feel as planted as the Seal and a bit wafty compared to firmer ride of the Seal. We were looking for a second car with more space and ended going for the 7 seat BYD M6 which only cost £20k

BYD is really moving the EV game, it's just incredible what a great bang for buck EVs they are bringing to markets. Would just love to see them bringing us EV hatchback and not another SUV.
Great video keep it up Fully Charged team 🤟🤟😍

Beautiful video! I'm from the USA (I'm sorry for it all) and I really really wish BYD cars were available here.

I own a Seal performance sedan out here in Australia. The quality and performance is amazing. We don't have the tariffs to deal with here either so great pricing.

Being realistic, how long do you think used ones of these will depreciate down to a price affordable by someone on £30K/year? The most I've ever spent on a car was £10K when my parents died and left me their savings. I'm not unusually poor or anything but new, we're talking about spending 1/3 of my house's price on something that lasts what, 5-10 years? I'd be looking for around £5k-10k, not £50k-60k.

BYD will bring their more premium brands Denza and Leopards(both will market under Denza in EU) this year. You will be so much more impressed. And the ultimate end game changers will be the Yangwang brand. Just check out the U7, U8 and U9. Unbelivably innovative

SO FRUSTRATING watching these videos from the USA and seeing all the affordable priced and right sized EVs we can't have!

I was literally just parked next to one at a charger here in the south east suburbs of Melbourne. Made my MG ZS EV look a little long in the tooth. I can see myself trading it on one of these or possibly the new MGS5.

PCP - if you're going to quote figures you need to specify if there's any down payment and how many years the payments go over. Otherwise it's impossible to compare and meaningless.

As a two car Aussie family living and working in a rural area and already owners of an Atto3, we were very keen on this as a second car for work, family and play. For work I need an AWD car with 500km+ range but was rather disappointed that even with the 81kWh battery, range is only 420km. This would not give me enough range for rural and remote trips away from any form of public charging. Rather odd that the UK gets the 90kWh battery and 500km range. Why not in Australia too?
