chinese here. byd usually built battery bigger than it claims. and it will gradually release battery so battery does not decline as fast as other brand. it is better build quality than xpeng or tesla.

my model y lost almost 5% in 2 years. byd battery hold way better according to taxi driver survey.

xpeng is good in adas. byd lag behind here.

one pedal drive caused a lot of accidents in china. driver lose muscle memory to use stop pedal when needed. that is why byd not allow one pedal drive.

Bro, no need to put other reviewers down. Implying they are not honest is just poor form. Just review the car as you see fit honestly. Putting yourself on a pedestal and dumping other reviewers down the gutter is just uncool. So thumbs down for you.

Nine people out of ten want comfortable and quiet simplicity to driving anywhere.
Apart from the fact that Viking has NOT driven this car, does he understand who it is made for?
Well, it's a family car that you can comfortably take on a road trip with 3 kids, or load to the hilt when shopping.
If you want something to drive hard and don't have decent roads to travel on, then the Sealion 7 is NOT a good choice. As someone who drove an average of 40000km per year for almost 15 years, on good country and suburban roads, and having watched every YouTube review on this car to date, it ticks every box as far as I am concerned. And I do know it's not *perfect* and also know I have never owned a car that was.
As for ADAS, I have it on my present EV and have set it up so that I get NO annoying beeps, and that's been the case for over 2 years.

Thanks for the reviews Sam. I do think you are being "click-baity" with the ""Shocking..." and "...major issues..." That kind of thing will tend to turn me away from videos. Plus, you are reviewing another person's review, so it's one person's subjective thoughts on another person's subjective thoughts. Anyways, comments on your videos will help you out, so there you go, and as a viewer I can always discount the subjectivity and just pick out the facts. I'll be test driving a Sealion at the Bangkok Moto Show next week. Saw one at the dealership a few days ago and my subjective view is that it's quite a looker. Love the giant fronk and the HUD. For me range is not so important as I will be charging at home 99% of the time, and the few long trips we do each year are done casually, and I've no issue with chilling at a charging station. Note the mid-spec "Design" will charge 10-80% in 32 minutes. Cheers.

It's weird because the Sealion 6 is insanely popular in Australia. A friend of mine bought one and he loves it.

That’s why I listen to the Electric Viking. He speaks the truth and he does thorough research. After meeting him at the EV show and watching him deal
with about 50 questions from 15 people after the panel forum show had finished, he was amazing and answered every question thoroughly and correctly from any subject from battery manufacture to EV charging to Chinese models and the renewable industry in Australia.
Sam is the only EV YouTuber which I set my notifications ON so I get all his videos daily
I suggest you do the same if you want to know about the EV space

A professional tester drove up the Genting Highland at a racing like speed cornering live recording. The body rolling and steering control looks good. Only thing concerned me. The performance near the peak of the highland became stagnant and needed a breather.

Significant bias I am afraid. This is an LFP battery, well known for lower density therefore less range compared to an equivalent NMC battery. On the other hand though LFP lasts far longer and degrades far slower than an NMC. Speaking on personal experience my 2019 Model 3 with an NMC battery from a starting range of 309 miles (EPA rating) is now down to 280 after 81k miles. 9.3% loss. I saw video and report of a BYD with 445k! miles with 20% degradation.. On the sealion though the prices are indeed high. You need lower prices if you want to infiltrate the market. As for the ADAS system, I have been in a number of different cars recently; they are all CRAP! Tesla is indeed better on this front.

I don't know about other markets, but in China the top trim of Sealion 07 costs less than the cheapest Model Y, so... Keep that in mind when comparing them.

The biggest problem with buying EVs is the technology upgrade.
BYD is actually addressing battery inefficiencies issues, but we can only see improvements on Blade Battery 2.0.
So if you do not need to use the car at the moment, waiting is always a better option.

So you are talking about journalistic integrity while reviewing a car that you have never even driven or sat on. Really?

Elliot said and Elliot found out. Thanks, but no thanks.

I am sure the car is not perfect, but it has a lot going for it in terms of fit for purpose, interior design, finish and I have actually found the driving experience to be top notch both in comfort and resonsiveness. But you would not know this, because you have never driven this car nor do you intend to do so.

Just because a review is negative doesn't mean it's accurate, conversely a positive review doesn't mean it's accurate either. It's best to look at many reviews since a lot of what makes up a review is subjective.

Few points to consider:
- Majority of buyers prefer soft suspension setup for comfortability even it means compromising the handling, especially for non performance SUV
- Not everyone wants one pedal driving, I know a lot my petrolhead friends never considered Tesla for this reason alone. In fact part of the reason I don't like Tesla apart from minimalism is one pedal driving that cannot be adjusted.
- Latest BYD software update has improved the ADAS, much better than 2022 version although it's still not perfect.
- Most of the BYD extra weight come down for using LFP chemistry for big battery. The XPeng G6 and Y LR they use NMC battery.

Haven´t seen or tried the car, but I heard from a friend, what kind of review is this?

I´ve been actively searching for my next car for 6 months now. Model Y, G6, and G9 are the remaining top contenders. With no former knowledge of BYD and no expectations, I went to see and try the Sealion 7 this weekend. And I must say I have a new favorite. Top build quality, great luxury feeling (doors close like a double-the-price German car), all the right things done to the interior layout (I am missing the ability to stretch my legs under the front seat when seated in the rear as I can on the Y).

To me, the looks are an important part, and the Sealion 7 far outperforms the others mentioned in my mind. Driving felt good, and I was comfortable. The soundproofing is great, and acceleration is top, I really didn´t have any complaints. Charging speed is good but not the best, but it doesn´t matter much as I (and most Norwegians ) will mostly charge at home overnight. The only question I´m left with is if the consumption is acceptable for my use, and for 95% of my driving, it is.

Sam your comments around the Atto 3 ADAS in 2022 when released is different than the expectations of a car released in 2025, and I note today still plenty of cars from legacy auto whose ADAS is ordinary, including some large Japanese manufacturers. BYD's never review particulalrly well in the UK and that is a big part due to their pricing, but a Skoda Enyaq or Hyundai Ioniq 5 will likely be $15k more in Australia and even then plenty won't touch them due to their NMC batteries anyway.

... annoying... so many Chinese trolls spreading pro-Chinese EVs propaganda..." Oh, here in Australia BYD is insanely popular... we love it..."
