Kalki 2898 AD Movie Review: A Futuristic Sci-Fi Epic Unfolds

"Kalki 2898 AD" is a groundbreaking 2024 Indian Telugu-language science fiction film directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by C. Aswani Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies. The film features a stellar cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. Inspired by Hindu scriptures, this film is the first installment of the planned Kalki Cinematic Universe. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, it follows a select group on a mission to save the unborn child, Kalki, of SUM-80, a lab subject.

Announced in February 2020 under the working title Prabhas 21, the project was later renamed Project K. Due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, principal photography began in July 2021 and concluded by mid-March 2024. The official title, Kalki 2898 AD, was revealed in July 2023. The film boasts music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic, and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. With a production budget of ₹600 crore (US$72 million), it stands as one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.

Originally slated for a 9 May 2024 release, the film was postponed due to unfinished production work and was eventually released worldwide on 27 June 2024 in standard, IMAX, 3D, and other formats.
