In case somebody misses it, the reason he can discard 3x=10 is because if you put x=10/3 in x^2-2x-3 it will give you a fraction (only the constant term that does not have an x is a multiple of 3) and for it to work you need it to be 2

In this type exercises be aware of indeterminate forms, for example, if x=-1 was a solution of the base polynomial it wouldn't be a solution of the equation.

for x = 10/3 there should be 9 solutions, all of which we know how to find. but conventionally there are zero.
