How to find save game files on Steam Deck (2023)

those Numbers in the CompatData are literally the AppIDs, like he said. You can find those a couple ways, but one quick and dirty is by copying the URL from the app's store page and looking for the related number as part of the url.

You're the first to make the process of finding and identifying the save data file, simple enough to port it over to a MicroSD card (as one such as myself being new to Linux...), I have ever personally seen done on YouTube (or anywhere). Having simplified the procedure so well, I now can place the file path into a readme or something and forever remember how to backup save games manually - without the overcomplicated hassle. On behalf of gamers everywhere (particularly on Steam Deck) I thank you, for helping us backup save data files that don't have "Steam Cloud" (such as Dark Souls 3, for instance...).

Thanks so much for this. Only got my Steam Deck fairly recently and holy moly trying to navigate the maze of files and folders was quite confusing to say the least. I wouldn't need to do this if Steam Cloud worked properly. I wanted to continue on with Sonic Frontiers on PC but for some reason it wouldn't sync with the Cloud on my Steam Deck so I had to do it manually and everything's ok now so many thanks for this.

Man, thank you so much for this! I started playing Fallout 3 and realized there is no cloud save. There's plenty of videos on how to transfer files from PC to steam deck, but I couldn't find anything on where to exactly put those save files on the steam deck. Thanks to this guide I was able to locate the FO3 save folder, pasted the save files from my PC, and now it's good to go.

Wanted to carry over my Fallout 3 save from Windows 10 and this helped. So Dumb a lot of publishers haven't added Steam Cloud to older titles since the Deck launched.

also to add to this video alot of games places saves in appdata
so instead of going to documents in 1:10 go to application data
saves for games like dark souls and elden ring are there instead

This was exactly the missing info I had been looking for. Already had the game ID info and knew how to make a symlink for the save folder. Just could not locate the path to find it.
I mean, if the posts on the reddit page where I found your video linked weren't too lazy to fill in where to start looking for the directory path to begin with.... Any way, great video!!
