I have been a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs a few years ago, for about 4 years… I were in the company for a total of 16 years. Sure, the salary is high with the total compensation. I received about $480-560k a year (converted from CHF, worked in Zürich).

However, I quit 2 years ago to become a full-time professor and researcher, never regretted it. But I do not receive anything near that salary anymore.

A Managing Director at Goldman is NOT equivalent to a “Manager”.

It's only money after a certain amount it isn't going change your life that much especially if you are working all the time you won't be enjoying it on vacations or weekends. Gotta know your limit one day will be your last spend your time wisely it's the only thing we have that is really worth anything

Not entirely true, salaries on entry level analysts and associates depend a lot on location and department to make over six figures.
