Seems like the one thing Google AI doesn't do like a real person is become confused by a simple phone call request. Good job Duplex. Maybe that restaurant should hire you to answer their phones :)

Sounds like it's been trained to insert audible thought pauses just to sound natural. Like, uhm etc. That's typical for humans to put in just to make the other party know there is "activity". Computers won't need that if course, but for a conversation to sound natural and also avoiding "hello, you still there? “ I guess they let duplex do that too. I just wonder how deep the understanding is of the conversion, to what degree it is contextual. For every kind of conversation, will it need a template for the possible outcomes? Google doesn't give any answers. It can still be dumb as a doorknob.
