Inspired by God, the wise aspirant pursues the path of action after giving up egoism and desire, like the sages of ancient times who engaged in selfless action and realised the Self. Krishna then goes on to teach Arjuna about the way of action, about which sometimes even the learned ones are confused.
Meaning Ch 04 – śloka 15-16:
By knowing thus, the seekers of liberation in ancient times have also performed actions. Therefore, you perform your actions (prescribed duties), as did the ancestors in the past.
Even the wise are confused about what is action and what is inaction. Therefore, I shall now explain to you [the nature of] action, by knowing which you shall be liberated from inauspiciousness.
