She played us by taking complex chords, and then starting with the most dissonant relationships first. She still has the correct and most important chords and notes in there so it is still the song we all know.

Gosh dang it, enharmonics. Seeing Db and C# in the same chord just doesn't sit well with me, especially since the key signature is Db. I guess that goes along with the atmosphere and theme of the song.

I can imagine a large number of music theory professors fainting or having a bit of a tantrum at this 😅

Ah this is Stacey Ryan and she sure knows what she is doing. I would love to see more of her on this page!

Definitely agree with the title. It's called dissonance, doesn't mean that it's a wrong note

I don't know what all the fuss with notes is about but it sounds very unusual and very good!

Phrygian dominant - the scale that keeps on giving.

Some parallel 7ths. It's fair game in harmony. She did a good job with it.

Yes, I sense that Jacob collier is helping inspire this type of crazy harmonizing and I’m here for it:) (Yes it’s been done before, but collier is bringing it to the younger crowd)

There are no wrong notes, some are just more right than others. "Thelonious Monk"

Heard this and thought immediately: The first four notes are exactly the same as Pokemon's St. Anne Theme

The difference between playing wrong notes and jazz is the confidence.

just a noobish music lover passing by, maybe someone will be able to explain to me something. During the 5th part, i felt like the notes about to be added in the last part were already present in a way, like suggested by all the previous layers combined. Sorry for the poor musical vocabulary, but it felt amazing to hear! Music is life :)
