“There are no wrong notes” is probs the most famous quote among jazz musicians

I feel like Victor Wooten could be a pastor of music. "You don't dance to the key, you dance to the groove" Amen!

Went to his bass/nature camp as a teen, god, 15 years ago now. Victor is a great dude all over. Took the time to get to know everyone, was super enthusiastic for all the kids. I remember him teaching this very lesson in a cabin in the woods in Tennessee and all of us just feeling so inspired. Great teacher, great musician, great person.

The jazz composition professor that said “nah stop playing right and just play” taught me what genuinely became the single greatest skill among any of my lessons. Like, learn the rules then learn the rules don’t matter, just see where your fingers and your melodies take you, no longer within the rules of theoretical consensus but just within the rules of you and the moment. Good stuff.

I had a jazz guitar teacher many years ago who told me to know the key you're in. Start there, and as long as you finish where you started, you can play whatever you want in between. This dude is spot on.

When a tonal center is established you can get chromatic if you bring it back to a tonal center in the end

A real musician is Mr. Wooten. Feel and soul are the most important aspects. Technique is just the icing on the cake which allows you to play freely.

To this day the most mind blowing thing I’ve ever seen a musician do was Victor at a Béla Fleck concert in college at Chico State University. He is a genius!! If someone wants to hear it I’ll tell you, it’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen still 20 years later.

I've seen Victor Wooten live three or four times and it's always an amazing show when he's always right there willing to talk to the fans and hang out, I've had several conversations with him and his brother reggie. And his brother Reggie plays I believe it's a Kramer star guitar. Kramer made them Charvel made them Arbor made them it was a popular style for a while he's done a lot of modifications on. The last time I saw him I asked him why he didn't play it where was it and he said hang on a second and he ran backstage comes running back out with the orange star guitar, and hands it to me and says here check it out I've met a lot of musicians I met a lot of guitar players. I've never ever had any other one hand me his guitar and go what do you think Victor Wooten Reggie Wooten and I'm sure the rest of the family, are all solid gold people. They are the salt of the earth.

Ever heard of a teacher you liked because they had the perfect teaching style for you? These things are powerful and concise! His students are so lucky.

Music theory isn’t the rules for music, it’s supposed to be an explanation, it’s not meant to show you how to make music, it’s how it usaully works

I love Victor Wooten. I read his books years ago. It turned my playing around and made me a musician to reckon with. Thank you Victor..

Man, finally in all the videos on ytb, someone that really LOVES music. Jesus. Everybody focusing on "hiting notes" whether on guitar, bass, or vocals and etc... when they should focus on EMOTION, FEELING, leave a message, a legacy, and above all INSPIRE people to do something. Thats whats all about. But unfortunetely, is just 5% of the ppl in this business that think on that way. Thank u MR Wooten, u won a fan.

its been a fun experience for me to play with "context" and use dissonant notes to create harmonies or playing with minor sounds, things i was pushed away from, but now create some of my favorite noises on my instrument
