Sometimes, I feel like I’m the Dark Knight and Britec is Alfred talking to me through the phone walking me through a mission. Anyway, I just bought a laptop and I’m doing this, I used the samsung ssd t7 touch for work and my video editing. Thanks Brian!

I have two programs that only run on windows that I cannot do without. I don't need them very often but when I do, I REALLY DO. Running windows from an external drive when I need them will finally allow me to wipe my laptop and install Debian 12.
Thank you.

This can be of great help when I do find time to try to have a go at it, Brian. Thank you in advance.

At this point in time Rufus has some additional options when you select Windows to go. Very cool, I'm going to see how far I can stretch this

I am not clear about licensing the operating system on the USB. Does one need to buy a retail licence so that the USB can be moved around different PCs?

I have win 11 Pro on my desktop machine. It will be helpful to have this to run on my Asus gaming laptop from 2016, which is not supported. As luck would have it, I have just upgraded one of my NVME drives, so I have a spare 512gb Nvme in an enclosure to use. Thanks for this video, very helpful indeed.

*Dont change the one option to Windows to go if you want to install Windows to your ssd or any other internal drive.* It means that Windows is to go on the USB-Drive (which is what this Video-Tutorial is all about) and wont install to your internal drive! I am now on my second day of trying everything out to copy Windows to my ssd among other things with many 3rd party programs, I almost had a panick attack because I saw no way out, Thankfully I finally found out the issue

Thanx for the interesting video. Using your default method for Rufus all I got when I went to boot to the USB HD was a black screen. By changing the Partition Scheme from GPT to MBR which changed Target System to BIOS. That allowed the USB drive to boot up and run Win 11 slowly but fine. I've just order an external USB3 caddy and a 256Gig SSD so will do this again and keep it as an emergency Windows drive to allow me to see files on maybe a faulty drive or allow be to download an ISO or repair files for a faulty drive. Also works on some Linux distros if you can set a Persistence size.

Hi Brian, I notice that you didn't answer Lawrence Hawgood's question regarding Licencing!
If I/We create this USB drive or an External SSD drive whilst using a non compliant Windows 10 Pro machine, will this affect the licence under which the "Resident" Windows 10 O.S. is functioning?
If not; good, but I'm mystified as to where it obtains its own licence to function legally!
Can you explain??

This is the kind of thing I have done in the past to fix PC problems . Ive used Rufus to boot up a version of Linux . Then access drives which have crashed etc . Or you can put other utlities on it to fix other issues. Booting a portable OS using this method is definitely a good idea

if you already have windows installed on the computer make sure to enable autoboot from the usb, type windows to go in the search bar and click the 1st option and enable/put yes, otherwise it will not let you boot from it and it will make you boot into the main windows os or the one already installed

Hi Brian. I like this idea. Can you get access to programs (eg MS Office) installed on the (Win10, say) PC you are running Win11 on?
