Host Oleh Bilousov, in his blog "Monoblog About...," revealed that Russia has started withdrawing ships from the naval base in Tartus, Syria, following the rapid advance of rebels that Bashar al-Assad's army cannot contain. Notably, the Elna tanker, critical for supporting Russian forces in the Mediterranean, has left Tartus. Other vessels may have departed the base alongside it. In total, Russia's naval group in Syria consists of five ships and one submarine.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Russia is considering initiatives for resolving the Ukrainian "conflict," based on a "sincere desire for peace." What proposals are coming from Russia this time? Watch the video for more details.

WTF ?? "The completion of the special operation with any outcome should be considered a victory?" Either something is wrong in the translation or this is the darkest and most Orwellian pronunciamento I have ever heard. Let's consider what this war has "accomplished" for Russia:

* realistically, by the time it is over, there will be roughly 1 million casualties. And because Russian field medicine is almost non-existent, at least a third of these are dead, and most of those are rotting or eaten by the wild animals, where they died in Ukraine.

* at least 700, 000 draft age men left. Most will never return

* Surprise! Putin's idea that he held a stranglehold over Europe due to oil and gas ... Wrong! And guess what? They aren't going to buy much from Russia going forward.

* Sweden and Finland joined NATO; Nato is invigorated and most countries have substantially increased their military spending and preparedness.

* The Russian military has been exposed as incompetent, Russian arms have become a standing joke, "jack in the box" tanks and all. This is a disaster beyond mere pride to Russia, because it has been underfunding its military-industrial complex, and using export sales to provide what funds they have gotten. Nobody wants to buy Russian arms anymore.

* roaring inflation, and nearing economic disaster.

Generations of Russians not born yet will consider Putin the man who destroyed Russia.

Russia has no business in the Middle East. The 1700s are over now. What is Russia’s obsession with the power they had hundreds of years ago. Could it be that a combination of communism and its drunken Soviet leaders, failed projects and a confused military, (all due to traditional corruption) caused Russia to go from empire to open cesspool. Russia is a country where a third of the population doesn’t have indoor plumbing! Maybe Russia should take the next 300 years and build a country with working toilets, outlying cities and towns with paved roads and sewers, homes with insulation and running water, a nationwide system where bribery is not allowed and leaders who don’t use the national treasury as their own piggy bank. Russia has no business sticking its filthy nose into the business of other countries who have real culture, education and a literate people.
