"George Harrison's Final Years: A Deep Dive into the Last Chapter of a Legend"

George Harrison, 58, passed away on November 29, 2001, just before 1:30 p.m. Pacific time. His wife and son were present, and a few significant, close friends were also present, chanting, singing, and praying. Olivia Harrison described it as a "deeply beautiful moment... he yearned to be with God." Harrison's body was wrapped in a silk blanket, slathered in holy water and perfumed oils, and taken care of by Hollywood Forever Cemetery personnel in less than twenty minutes. After being driven to UCLA Medical Center in an unmarked white van, his body was cremated in ten hours during a straightforward Hare Krishna ceremony that included a Bhagavad Gita reading.

Olivia and Dhani Harrison were already on their way to Switzerland with his ashes when word of his passing spread. Later, these were dispersed at Allahabad, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers—the three holiest rivers in Hinduism—during a covert ceremony postponed to prevent fans and the media from snooping around.

Harrison's spiritual journey could be said to have started in Benares, which is nearby. It was there in the late summer of 1966 that he went with Ravi Shankar and experienced a transformative glimpse of a "bliss" that fame, wealth, pop music, and the likes of John, Paul, and Ringo could never quite provide. Harrison's ashes were also distributed there. For individuals who thought that spirits "nipping through" reincarnation.

It was there in the late summer of 1966 that he went with Ravi Shankar and experienced a transformative glimpse of a "bliss" that fame, wealth, pop music, and the likes of John, Paul, and Ringo could never quite provide. Harrison's ashes were also distributed there. He was at last home to those who believed in reincarnation and souls "nipping through the astral plane." Harrison's final journey to the holy city of Benares, which took place over 35 years after his initial one, demonstrated an impressive dedication to the pursuit of self-knowledge, even for those with a more skeptical disposition. Few musicians posed as many uncomfortable questions, both of themselves and of of God, of life itself. He was ready to hear some answers.

“When I met George he said his ambition was to have no ambition,” Olivia Harrison said. “And I think he achieved that. For the last five years he felt like that. He was free to go.”

I was very sad and angry. I remember reading around May of 2001 that his cancer had metastasized, and I knew it was over. The day he died, I took a fresh pack of cigarettes, scrunched them up and threw them away. I haven't smoked a cigarette since Nov. 29, 2001. I miss you, George. I listen to your solo stuff these days more than I do the others. Hare Krshna.

Paul Simon said this about his friend, George Harrison: “He was an extraordinary guy; everybody knows that. Amazing person, not just a musician but really brave, open, kind. Just a certain percentage of him was Beatles, but the rest, he was just regular. Just interested in life, interested in the world, interested in the mind. A pleasure to hang out with him.”
I was crushed when George passed away, because I had loved him since I was 7 years old and saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. I’ve read everything about him and listen to his solo work all the time.

Tom Petty told a funny story. He and George used to send faxes to each other back in the day. After Olivia helped fend off that attacker, Tom (who lived in LA) sent George a fax that said, "Glad you're OK. Good thing you married a Mexican."

Great Video! Thank you for showing this to all of Georged fans. I loved George and his Beatle buddies since that Sunday Night, February 9th, 1964.
I was 8 years old. My older Brother Mark bought every Beatle 45rpm and Album since. I would sit on my bed a listen over and over. George became my favorite
after he released his epic album " ALL THINGS MUST PASS" I couldn't stop listening. When I got my car, My Buddy Sal put in an 8-track tape player.
I bought a copy of "All Things Must Pass" for my Car! Then 1971 Comes and George performs at his "CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH". I bought the Triple album 💖

My brother Tom, and I loved George and his music. He was our favorite Beatle. My brother went to be with the Lord in 1998. So glad He finally got to meet George! One day I will see them both! A lovely thought for sure. ✝️❤️

Hard to believe it’s been 20+ years since he passed. And only 58 years old……I’m 70 so 58 seems on the young side. He was not only a Beatle but I enjoyed his time with The Traveling Wilburys too. He’s is certainly missed.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IT'S BEEN ALMOST 23 YEARS SINCE WE LOST GEORGE HARRISON!! He was a "WONDERFUL" man and known as the "QUIET" Beatle!! He was a GREAT, musician and had SO MUCH TALENT!! Even his son Dhani has TALENT just like he did and he's LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM!! What I liked about George Harrison was the fact that he was so "HUMBLE" and "LAID BACK!!" RIP George and thanks for the "GREAT" memories!!
