In this video, we show you what happens when you overload your LED power supply.

If you wire too large a wattage of LED strip lights to a power supply that cannot handle them, the power supply will be overloaded and begin to flash.

Check out the video to see what happens and how to avoid this mistake.

Please comment and ask any questions regarding LED strips, power supplies, controllers etc and we will make a video answering your question!

Why InStyle LED?

We stock all of these LED strips for next day delivery.

I want to thank you for this video. I have had under cabinet LEDs for over 4 years with no trouble. Then all of a sudden, when I turned them on they continued to flash. I dug around in my stash of discarded power supplies and found one with the correct voltage and what looked like enough wattage. The only problem is that it was AC. I opened it up, installed a diode on the positive lead and I'm good to go! Thanks again.

Great video, simple explanation, thanks. We had our house renovated 3 years ago and have strip leds in the kitchen. They've been fine until now, and have suddenly started flashing just like yours were. Would this still be overloaded? If so, why would it suddenly start having been fine for 3 years? Thanks!

I been using 2 strips like this to light up my room and this happened recently. They worked for MONTHS and then they started turning on very dim when first turned on before one night they started flashing. I assumed it was the power supply like this video said and I replaced the 12V adapter with another 12V, the strips say it needs 12V right on the strip and that's the kind of adapter it came with. It worked for a day and now it's flashing again, however this time it works with darker colors and it only flashes when I use a color close to white. Did I buy a faulty replacement adapter or is it something else?

Hello! I don't have access to buying new power supplies etc, etc. Would this be solved if I cut off a part of the strip to balance somehow the power outtake?

The strip lighting I installed in the cabinets have worked nicely for over a year. And now, a few minutes after I turn them on, they start blinking sporadically every several seconds or each minute or so. But in between the blinkings, they're operating normally. Weird. All the lights were originally installed on a dimmer. Could it be the power supply or the dimmer going bad? If I had gotten the wrong power supply for the amount of lights, wouldn't the power supply had acted improperly from the start? Please help. Thank you.

So thank you for this video now I know why my daughters new led strip lights are flashing. However I don’t know what to do now. Two reals of strip lights came with the set, so why would they send us a power supply that can’t handle them? And what do I do now?

I had a strip flashing at the bar I work at. I noticed one of the solder points was frayed. I soldered it back on and it worked fine. BUT another strip is doing the same thing and I re-soldered it best I could and it still flashes. Could the power supply be bad? The same lights worked for years before hand so I dont think they have the wrong strength power supplies on them.

everything worked fine for 2 months
but from some 2 3 days strip is just continuously becoming bright and dim in a damn fast manner
I just unplugged the adapter and don't know what to do

Adapter: 9v 600mA
strip : warm white, 12v and idk how much watt or amps does it requires per meter
