Can-Am Ryker Rally - My first impressions

My thoughts after the first hour of riding of a 2023 Can-Am Ryder Rally, Mrs. Slow Rider’s new toy.
What is it like to ride a trike for the first time, after riding bikes…
Why do trikes get so much hate from some bikers…
Will Mrs. Slow Rider ever let me ride her Ryker again after this?

I bought one after laying down my 2 wheel bike. I suffered severe panic attacks trying to ride 2 wheels. Bought the ryker and am able to enjoy rides again. Best decision ever.

That look like a LOT of fun, I can absolutely see why someone would feel better on one of those than on 2 wheels.

I took the 3-wheel course at MSF recently and rode a Ryker 600 for my first time. You would have never thought it was my first time b/c i looked like i had been riding them my whole life. I got my 2-wheel endorsement October 2022 and bought a Navi (110cc) automatic motorcycle in February 2023. Originally learned on a Grom. I liked it, but i suck at shifting hence me going for the Navi which is pretty similar to a Grom but carbureted, combined breaking system (drum breaks) and a couple other differences.

You made a good point in your intro about why one might want to ride a Ryker and not a two wheel. While i thought I would like motorcycling, i don’t feel safe on mine and the navi is about the easiest bike to ride. I’ve practiced on a side street before, and it is fun to just grip it and rip it as i say, or twist and go, but as you mentioned, it’s alot to take in when you’re on 2 wheels. The lean, countersteer, etc… that’s not a big deal for me. In my situation, I just don’t feel safe taking a bike as small as the navi on the road. I also just want to be able to enjoy the ride and i can’t do that w/ the 2-wheel b/c of all the things you have to be aware of. Now you’ll have to still be aware on the can-am for sure, but i like the fact that I’m bigger, I’m more seen, and i don’t have to lean, countersteer, shift, etc… everything is completely opposite on the 3-wheel and i like it!

When i first started riding a can-am, i found that my left hand wanted to shift or squeeze the clutch - and there’s nothing to squeeze on these lol. I also wanted to countersteer but i adjusted to leaning into the turn on these as you suggested.

Since the course used Ryker 600, that is what i am accustomed too, but i was recommended to get a rally and I’m just wondering if I should go that route as a first timer to trikes. I live in the country and have country roads (paved), hills and some twisties. I won’t be going off road nor on the highway, and i don’t see myself needing to adjust the suspension. We do have potholes and some rough roads here though. I love the upgraded seat and the diff modes.

Just wondering if i should stick with what i know - the Ryker 600 base or go for a ryker rally. One thing i can tell you is with my navi, i don’t like that it lacks power. I mean should you one day need it, then you’re gonna wish you had it. That’s another reason why i am considering the rally.

I had to give up on two wheelers due to the amputation of my right leg above the knee, the loss of feeling, muscle power and muscle memory and my balance wasn't anywhere as good as it once was. The Ryker offers me everything I could want on two wheels, but with the safety of an extra wheel. Many will say it's a million miles away from being like a two wheeler, but if you look at it with the point of view that you are doing what you used to do, but in a different way, it still puts a smile on your face.

Nice video, no specs, just what it’s like to ride one. Very well done. Thank you.

I own two large bikes, a small one and a scooter. I also have a Can-Am Spyder F3-S. I like my F3-S just as much as the bikes. Really fun to ride. It's a real workout on the corners, as well. Nick

I have a lot of fun on mine. Once you stop comparing and trying to ride it like a motorcycle, everything falls into place. For me it rides like your driving an atv on the street and if you wanna ride it fast you gotta move around on the seat!! Be safe and have fun!!

Before anything! The #1 buy is a Steering stabilizer. I get on highways and feel very safe. Bumps are lessened big time.

Owned a 2001 R6, then a Honda Rebel, and now a Honda Navi. Looking to get one of these for faster roads because the Navi is just around town for errands and just fun cruising on lower speed roads. Awesome video and now very very interested!

Nice review. I bought a 2021 Ryker Rally just before Thanksgiving with @500 miles and am really enjoying it. I've had motorcycles for decades, usually two in the garage, one touring, one 'different' for local rides and errands. I sold a Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor last summer to make room for something different and saw this at a local dealership at a great price. I'm 70 years old, this could be my go to rider in a few more years, and it looks to be a good choice. I've put the Shad side bag and top box on it for storage and some other upgrades, it makes for a very fun capable ride.

I agree with your first impressions, very thorough. You might want to look into the plug-and-play Pedal Commander for smooth & rapid throttle response. Slingmods has that and tons of farkles/accessories.
I have ridden the 600cc Ryker (twin cylinder) & the 900cc triples as well as the nice Rally you have. Love the Rally & I think it has 1 more inch of ground clearance than the regular 900s.
I splurged & went for a new Spyder RT Ltd, large difference in price, but I planned to tour (40 yrs riding 2 wheelers, still have them).
As you say, some negative comments from 2-wheelers, probably mostly jealousy, lol.
My wife rides motorcycles - now just need her to get a Ryker rally so I can steal it for some fun rides! All the best in safe & fun riding. Cheers, Ronny.
PS - the brakes on the Ryker are absolutely phenomenal!!

Get Mrs. Slow Rider a steering damper for the Ryker. Helps with steering sensitivity, rough roads, cross winds. It removes the wiggly jiggly feeling in the steering It made a huge difference for me and is well worth the cost.

The more you ride it the more comfortable you get. Rides like a quad in straight aways and a snowmobile in the turns. Two wheels are fun but you can enjoy the ride/scenery moreso with the three wheeler.

Anyone who has riden an atv should feel at home on a Ryker, it’s a very similar experience. Especially the feeling on corners.

With my bad knees. A trike is the way I have to go now.
