The laws regulating this type of behavior are decades behind the technology and will continue to be so unless our legal system is massively overhauled (I'm US based, this may vary depending on your country of origin). Gaining even a baseline knowledge of cybersecurity gives you a chilling picture of just how invasive the online landscape really is. Companies count on the average person being ignorant of these things.
